Thought 1: I no longer care to deal with that level of recoil.
Thought 2: The magazine length, cartridge length, throat length mix may not be the best.

I handled but did not fire a NULA chambered to 300 Weatherby. I understand how stock design and fit to the shooter makes a difference, but still.

That rifle with bust your azz. Better buckle in and lock those rings down tight. Might move the scope forward a tad lol. If you want light weight power, grab a tikka in 06. It'll do everything that win mag will in a light gun. My opinion.

I must like the .300 Win. Mag. as I have 5 rifles so chambered. However, there's no way in hell I'd shoot one that light. The 4 Ruger #1s are sufficiently heavy that recoil isn't too bad and the Winchester M70 actually feels like it kicks a bit less. I'd pass on that Montana. PJ

For $850 I'd give it a try. Looks like it has a real good recoil pad. I have an early example 84M in 7mm08 and it is my favorite hunting rifle. Maybe try it with light loads. 150gr?

I suffer a S/S Classic Winny laminate 375 H&H. Winchester stock designs are fhuqking horrid and the recoil a bunch, despite the overly heavy contours and increased mass. Hint………..

Mines wears a MUCH lighter OEM contour than most, which I chopped to 21” and turned the sight boss away. Despite that, it weighs more than any of my 700’s in 375 and 375 H&H AI,which shoot much softer.Hint.
Winchester has long botched 375’s. Hint…………..

I'd give it a try too. $850 would be donor for a 7 prc. Or a Talkeetna-clone

I have one in 30-06 that is pretty lively to shoot, not sure I would care for a 300 win.

I’d prob chop it to 22”. .308 bullets are pretty pig-like but a 300 still rolls at 22”s
