i just wanted to give a shout out to Glenn and Richard at Outkast arms, i had them re-barrel and restock a winchester m70 30-06 over to 35 whelen. its sporting a 22 inch douglas 1-12 twist barrel and one of their proprietary light weight stocks and full length bedded it. i made it to the range today for its first range session and i am well pleased with how it preformed.
they are putting out some good stuff up there at outkast arms. id say it was a pretty good first range trip. i am having them restock 2 other winchester m70s (300 win mag and 222 rem) cant wait to get me hands on them
Hello there. The weight will vary with application. From the heavier ones for Winchester, Remington and Ruger's coming in at about 1lb 5oz to the lighter ones for like a Kimber being much lighter. We build Kimber 84's easily under 5 lbs without scope. Thanks for the question.
JFYI, Our new stock design comes out of a modular mold. We have 3 different size molds that accommodate a wide range of actions. We convert most to a blind mag set up, But we can keep bottom metal on some. We have done Rem 700 short and long, Mod 7, 600 and others. Win model 52, And most of the M70 configurations. Ruger model 77 Sako A2/597 And probably others I have forgotten.
Hello there, If it is an action we have done. The cost is $750+return shipping. That is a finished painted and installed stock. The price is the same if it's something we haven't done, But are likely to do again. If it is something odd ball that we will never make again and we have to make a new insert for our mold, then the price will be more. Tooling epoxy is expensive.
Hello there, Turn around time on something we have already tooled up for is usually under a month. If we have to make new tooling, it will take longer. Thanks for the question.
I am happy to answer any questions anybody may have, but I don't get on here often and I haven't figured out how to get notifications from here on my phone yet. Lol. Best way to reach me is a facebook message through our facebook page.
It looks like a NULA stock for different models, is that correct?
It is similar, The same basic lines, Still kevlar. Just made in a different process. I designed our mold to be modular. What that means is the stock can be made in left or right hand. With or without drop comb. And with or with out a grip swell, out of the same mold. It's kind of hard to imagine if you have no experience with an open mold. But it works pretty slick. Thanks for the question.
What does the Kimber stock weight in at? Can you inlet them for a proof sendero lite?
Hello there, It depends on the configuration that they are built to. They come out of the mold at about 14oz. We have never done a proof, but I am sure we can. Thanks for the question.
Outkast just built this Kimber for me. They converted a Kimber 84M 308 to a 450 Bushmaster. They rebarreled it and bedded it into one of their stocks which converted it from a detachable mag to a blind one, which is what I wanted. They are master craftsmen. They work with you to build what you want and are just good guys. They also shoot, hunt, and understand firearms.
This rig weighs 5 lbs 12 ozs with the scope and rings. I picked it up this week and plan on shooting it tomorrow.
The copper camo is intriguing. Do you still full length bed the barrel. Your rifles still look more like the original NULA rifles than what the new owner's "improved" NULA rifles do,thank goodness. Keep up the good work.
Talked to a gent who just had several converted on barrels, stocks, etc.......His targets at 100 yds were very impressive. He also said the gentleman ( I'll not mentioned his name ) that has done the stock work for many years in Melvin's shop is still doing all the stocks, bedding, etc.... I'll bet they are still done " the Melvin way ". Really happy to see that Glenn has taken it to another level with all the innovative stock designs. JMOP
I don’t think I have enough messages to be able to pm yet. I am not really sure how all that works. If you have questions let me know and I will get you other contact information.

We do full length bed. We will also free float if requested. But that kind of negates the magic of a super stiff stock. Thanks for the question.

Richard has been in this shop for 23 years, before that He did composites for the army, airframes, that kind of stuff. We can only hope to live up to Melvin's expectations! He is a giant in my eyes! Thanks for the question.

I’m assuming this rifle started out as a hunter model. Very cool! This seems like a much better idea than ordering a Wilson rifle. To me anyway. You can have any chambering any barrel length and deal with a small shop.

A 1-7” 16.5” 22 creedmoor would be pretty handy.
You are correct, it was a Hunter. And you are also right about having any chambering, twist, and barrel length you want. It feels very much like a NULA which I like very much. The hard part is deciding what I want them to build for me next…….LOL

After seeing this, I wish I had been faster on the draw with that hunter 308 in the classifieds last week!
I went to the range today and shot the Outkast rebuilt Kimber in 450 Bushmaster. She really likes factory Hornady Custom 250 gr. FTX’s. I am very pleased with the accuracy and I don’t think I am going to even mess around with hand loads. I think this will make a fine bear rifle and Ohio deer gun. These were the norm for 3 shots at 100 yards. The nickel is for size reference, I haven’t measured them yet.
Glenn and Richard built an awesome rifle and I am really excited about it.
great target, its tough to argue with results like that. i bet your glad i was able to talk you into doing the 450bm now huh lol, thanks for sharing it buddy

That's some good shooting Tex, Thanks for the good words.
outkast arms strikes again! i picked up one of my winchester m70s today. its my 300 win mag. they put one of their stocks on it, full length bedded and reblued the action and barrel and painted the stock. im happy so far, will try to hit the range next week hopefully.

My Colt showed up today and I’m super pumped with how it turned out! Glenn was able to get the weaver style bases I asked for as well as I asked for a modern take on Melvins classic camo and I think it turned out awesome! Can’t wait to get it out tomorrow and run some rounds through it!
It's nice to see in this Day & Age,that someone does good work. Hint..............

That is a nice looking rifle, Remington92! Congrats. Those bases are killer. I like the slot position on the rear base. My weavers work and I'm proud of them but those are better. Keep us posted.

Haven't done one yet. But odds are good we can do it. You'd have to ship it to us. I would need to look it over and do some measuring before I could give you a definite answer.
OutKast is turning out some fabulous work. I am looking through the safe to see what I might just send it to be restocked. Wish I could Find a ULA or NULA rifle action to build off of.

How about a Ruger American?
Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

It's do-able. But would require machining and fabricated box mag/spring/follower or after market bottom metal/mag. Better donors out there. Thanks for the question.
I would like to know more about the Weaver style bases. Steel? Any chance of an extended front base for my model 20? Not a huge fan of the Talleys I seem to be stuck with.

They were one off. I can make them in steel or aluminum. As thin as they wind up, Steel is better imho. The only reason I made those is that I was building the customer a rifle.

While you're busy fulfilling customer's wants and needs and "one-offing", how about some lightweight steel integrated bases/rings with eccentric live-centers? If we're gonna ask, might as well shoot for the moon. (grin)

wanted to boost some more publicity for outkast arms again, i had them restock my 1974 winchester m70 300 win mag with one of their proprietary stocks and add a muzzle brake. cant be more happy with their work, the target is with 180gr federal blue box factory ammo
more great work from outkast arms, 1974 winchester m70 222 remington, restocked with one of their proprietary stocks and threaded the barrel for suppressor. the target is from a hand load with a 52gr speer hp that worked before and after the restocking.
Just got a project back from the guys up there. I think it turned out Awesome. Scope mounted up and headed off to my range in AM if rain holds off long enough. I like what they are doing and will continue to support .
i also had outkast arms rebarrel a ula m20 for me to 6mm creedmoor with a 1-7 twist 17 inch stainless douglas, and it turned out real nice. theres 3 targets, the vertical 3 shot grouping was initial sight in with hornady varmit express 87gr, the target with 3 low in the bullseye area are hornady precision hunter 103gr and the 4 shot group above bullseye is my hand load with a 75gr hornady vmax with varget behind it (the flyer on my hand load target was my second shot and i wiggled on it the other 3 stacked in there). i can use all three with out changing the scope, it works for me.

How do you like the new style stock compared to original NULA stock?
i really like the winchester stocks, ive had 3 done so far and they have all turned out fantastic. the lines are significantly different from a ula stock in the middle around the action, but to me they feel the same on the front and rear so the big difference is the carry point is wider but thats to be expected with a bigger action and the rifle comes out about a pound lighter from original wood stock form. ive been well pleased with Glenn and Richards work and everything they have turned out for me has shot very well. i also had a remington 700 restocked and rebarreled from 7mm-08 to 5.56/223 and it turned out real nice too and is a shooter as well.
rem 700 rebarreled to 5.56/223 16.5 inch 1-7 twist douglas barrel with a outkast arms proprietary stock. i dont think i have a target but it will one hole sierra outdoor master 55gr factory ammo.

its actually a trijicon huron 3-12x40 30mm tube with bdc reticle, eurooptic had it on sale so i thought id try it, i like it for this rig, or at least till i find something else i might like better but its doing fine for right now.

Well FacePage finally decided that pictures of evil bolt rifles were offensive on my page! So I thought I would leave this here. incase anyone is interested. We just finished our Howa Mini mold and this is the first stock out of the mold. This can also host aftermarket bottom metal. We are also doing short and long action Howa's.

That is bad ass right there. Can you do a blind magazine?
It's possible, but would require machining on the receiver to fit our box. there is aftermarket hinged bottom metal available for the Mini's to get rid of the plastic dbm bottom metal.
