Anyone use one for off road travel?

Anyone try game carts behind them for deer/stands?

Looking for reviews and what to stay away from. Thinking a mid drive model with throttle…

I definitely recommend mid-drive. Take a look at this thread.

I have the Himiway Big Dog. Some of their advertising features a woman who hitched a very small trailer to hers, and used it to carry her deer out after the hunt. So it must be possible.

There is a good argument to be made for mid-drive, but remember, DC motors have full torque at all RPM, so it may not be quite as important as some think.

In this state, 750 watts and below are legally bicycles and need no registration.

Since my July '23 purchase...Himiway Zebra $1749 shipped...been a hoot @ 1400+ miles

750 watt rear drive motor.......half twist throttle.....60-80 mile range....20 AH battery

The power assist ? The Zebra can be reprogrammed to 1-9 settings...instead of factory 1-5 settings

This means you have more control at the lower power settings on off road trails & even rutted FR trails

I really like the Zebra...in fact bought the wife one...in step through frame & she likes the hell outta of it

First check with the PA F&G as to your reg's....Trailers of some sort are available

Will they hold a 200# PA buck ? Hmmmmmm ? Most likely

Rear drive vs mid drive ? Break a chain ? Rear hub will let you use throttle to get back home...

Mid drive ? Push home unless you have tools/parts to repair the chain

I'm very satisfied with my two Zebra bikes...heavy yes at 79# Well designed & built yes 2 yr warranty yes

26" x 4" fat tires roll great (add Slime sealant !)

another thought.....

Hydraulic disc brakes are a plus for a heavy bike

May be common....USB port on controller to charge your phone is a must

Thanks for the replies guys.

I’ve been thinking mid drive at 6’ 1” 250 plus gear but recently found a 1000 rear hub.

Pa recently changed laws allowing more access with e-bikes also allowing more use. I’m surrounded by hundreds of miles of forestry roads allowing great access.

can't add much to the discussion but a good friend of mine is really into e-bikes - dropped some serious change on them. He went with a choice where the bike "helps" you but you have to be pedaling in order for emotor to kick in. That was a major point of emphasis for him in his decision.

I would think if you are in any shape at all, an ebike would be a great option. I'd love to have one but I can't justify the expense. $1800 doesn't seem crazy to me though. I might have to look into these a bit more. I was thinking the good ones started at the $3K range

I could like this one. Bolt some pedals on somewhere, if ya must.

A former boyfriend of my wife crashed one in Aug. There were no witnesses so no one knows how it happened. Hit his head on a curb, was in a coma for 6 weeks, died a few weeks ago. He had good brain function until the last week so there was a possibility of him waking up but then he just died. Bike helmets look stupid but one might have saved him.

As described above........the 'PAS' (peddle assist) power levels 1-9 let you select what power you want from the motor

Mine is set at 1-20%.....2-25%...3-30%...4---40%...5-50%...6-60%...7-70%...8--80%...9--99%

You can also bump up the max mph to 26+ through the 'speed limiter control'

Shimano gearing is 1-7 gears...I stay in #7 high gear ring

You can tailor the bike's motor output to your fitness level desired

My normal ride loop is 26 miles....about 85 minutes......average 19 mph

Yes I wear a Bell helmet

Linky.......use code 'Himiway80' for $80 discount

I turn 62 in January and the Ebike is the ticket for dragging deer out of the woods. It won't pull up super steep hills with a deer on the trailer, but all I have to do is pull the game trailer by hand up the steepest parts and then cruise on back to camp on the logging roads. It's awesome for scouting and checking game cameras etc. Mine is one of the cheaper versions but it has been rock solid.
