Thanks Jon, I just got that one. I took the 250 to WV for our 3 day, early doe season. it was so warm I didn't feel like hunting. I live in MD and we have to butcher our deer before crossing County lines because of CWD. I didn't really want to take a doe with it, so it's still #1 for regular rifle season, starting the Monday before Thanksgiving.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

Savage 1911 is tempting but I don't need one.

Is it gold plated?

Seems like it is priced right in there with other new "1911's" (~$800 - $2000)

How much would you be willing to pay for one?

Depends on how it shoots. I was given an Ed Brown Special Forces .45 for my 70th and it feels and shoots a lot different from any others I’ve ever used….can’t hear or feel it cycle, just smooth a silk! I would have to shoot the Savage before I chose to spent the bucks.

I'd be willing to pay 800 for a Ruger SR 1911. That's what I paid for mine

That's fine.
I have a 70 series Colt nickel, smooth as silk. Love it.

Beyond that, all new 1911's are not created equal.
Aluminum or stainless steel?
Sights?
Grips?
Prices vary with options.

I look forward to shooting one the new Savage 1911's and then we'll see about purchase.

The American Rifleman article was very complementary on the quality, smooth action, lack of problems that are usually inherent in a new 1911. I think it's worth it. Maybe after the first of the year.

Do any experienced Colt guys here have any experience with a Savage 1911?

KeithNyst?

Wondering if in the same ballpark? Or apples and oranges?

I've not read the best reviews on the newer Colts. One review I read in fact suggested buying a Ruger instead.

So I did. No complaints.

I've owned several WW ll 1911's over the years. Most of them Colts. No complaints there either.

Maybe Savages new 1911 is a home run. Seems a little salty in price to me though.

They made some 1911 parts. Slides as I recall, but never any complete pistols. That may have been more like between the wars, before or during WW ll.

I'm sure somebody knows the whole story better than I do.

Not Savage Arms. It was A.J.'s and Arthur's company in San Diego that made some slides (at least). About as much as I know.

I think the Colt guys have debunked the Savage slide story. Keith has brought this up previously.

They have a theory, a pretty good one. But don't think they have firm proof. Whether it was Springfield Armory or AJ/Arthur's company in San Diego - it wasn't Savage Arms.

the ambidextrous safety shown in the video convinced me to get one after the first of the year when I recover from paying property taxes. Maybe I'll sell my gold cup to help pay for it.

Good article here: Savage 1911 guns & ammo

Explains some of Savages rational for this pistol price point.

The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Pricing (MSRP) will start at $1,350 for the all-black Melonite and all-stainless models; $1,425 for the two-tone models; and $1,500 for the rail guns. How did Savage arrive at these price points? Some of it had to with factoring in costs to source certain high-quality components from suppliers. In the effort to situate its position for making premium products, Savage targeted the price-point for similarly equipped models offered by brands such as Ruger and Smith & Wesson.
