Check out Alpha Knife supply for your steel. They have a lot of useful information (properties and heat treating) posted about each steel as well. I've heard there can be lots of unknowns with steel from Amazon.

I never cut my nails, they just wear off, when I'm laying carpet I need those nails to pick up and hold 1/2 inch 5/8s concrete nails when I'm putting down tack strip.

I used to make or modify all kinds of stuff. Flies, fishing rods, guns, household stuff... Then I realized that there are guys who did it MUCH better than I could.
looks good to me. a real art to getting the steel just right for sharpening and holding an edge.. I played with some knife making but never really got into it much or not a great job with any certain one. but I can respect the amount of time one can put in making handmade knives and the expense they are to buy one..
