My “unicorn” within the OP’s parameters is an excellent condition Remington 700 ADL in .243 — mid-late-70s vintage. Dad had one when I was a kid that was “mine.” The nostalgia comes from it being the rifle that I was using when I decided to get serious about my hunting marksmanship. I finally matured enough to understand that I owed it to the animals that I was hunting to settle down and make a good shot. This buck was my first “one shot kill” and began the self-made expectation that I still hold today.

I loved that rifle! It was topped with a Weaver K4 and shot the Sierra 100gr Semi-Pointed bullets very well. I have accrued a couple of boxes of the now discontinued bullets… now I’m just waiting on the right rifle to come along.

1968 Marlin 444
Savage 170 in 35 Rem
I’ve seen both on auction sites, but the prices always go stupid IMO.

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Passed on a 170 in 35 Rem a couple yrs back for $400 something, don't remember the exact price. Probably shouldn't have but it had the hallmarks of being well used. Not beat up, but used hard enough I didn't quite trust it being parts are none existent.

I have a mint 170 in 30-30 carbine. Great handling little rifle with a whisper quiet tang safety. Still sits in my safe, never used it.

Had a 170B .35 awhile back. Jammed like nobody's business. Keeping the cartridge guide screw, the one under the ejection port, tight helped. But not enough for sufficient reliability.
Pity. That rifle was ACCURATE!!!

What a fun thread!

I wish I would’ve been the bozo that found Gary Cooper’s Griffin and Howe Springfield .30-06 at a yard sale. It recently sold at RIA for like $21,000.00! I never would have sold it.

I want to have a Savage 99 is each of the “savage” calibers: .22 HP, .250-3000, .300 and .303! I only have the .300 so far.

I want to buy each of my siblings, my kids and my wife a nice Marlin Model 39.

Would love to have a 1922 Springfield in .22 and one in a .22 Hornet.

A Colt SAA 7.5” barrel in anything between .32-20 to .45 Colt.

High Standard Sport King

A Winchester 1894 in .25-35, two Winchester model 1892’s one in .25-20 and the other was a .32-20 that my great grandfather converted to .357 Magnum.

I have that! A B model that was a Rhodesian game department gun. Looks every bit the part.

I tried to buy this rifle for about 3 years, and after I gave up and bought a Genschau”?” Geco, it almost fell in my lap.

Coolest rifle I own, no doubt!

I've been keeping my eyes open for a Kimber Classic Select in 7mm-08 with some special wood. Finally settled for a Super America that's on the way.

Too many in the safe already and a few may make it to the classified section in the future...

I’d love to find a Montana in .223 - OR, see Kimber wake the ph#q up and chamber their Hunter model in .223 with a fast twist! Kimber couldn’t make them fast enough....!

I have several bucket list “wants” that others have mentioned here right now.... my little Browning Low Wall in .260 Rem is a favorite......

And, I too have absolutely no need for it, but if I were given a Talkeetna…..I run a reamer in it, make it an AI, and have the “Holy Grail” of rifles! memtb

I walked into a gun shop two weeks ago to pick up a beautiful Kimber Classic Select in 300wsm I had eyed last month. Strolled around the shop to see if there was anything else I "needed." There sitting on a rack was a very lightly used Kimber Montana in 223...for $950! The guy at the shop said someone had brought it in less than an hour earlier to sell on consignment. Unicorns do exist...

I wouldn't be able to get my wallet out quick enough.... gotta love it when you stumble into a deal like that.

A Kimber Montana/Barrett/NULA/6-lug MK V, 1:7 223Rem w/2.5" mag box.

I have the Kimber so configured of my own doing, and have the parts (except a bbl which is but a phone call away) to do a 2nd fairly soon, then the girls will each have one for shooting everything from 35's to 88's and beyond.

It's rumored there were a few SS Ultimate Classic M70's from the custom shop in 223Rem but I've never seen one nor heard of anyone directly that has one or has seen one.

I'd love to have a Custom Shop SS Ultimate Classic M70 Fwt w/octagon bbl but I'd never actually spend the $$ to buy one if I did find it.

Actually more than any rifle, what I'd really like is about 20 more NF 2.5-10x32/42 w/IHR reticles.

I’ve never seen a 223 either.

Have you seen a fwt with an octagon barrel? The ones I have seen were not fwt. Supposedly those octagon barrels were made by Badger.
