I started blogging after I retired as a way to keep my mind sharp. ---Disclaimer: My wife says it is not working. End-disclaimer---

One of the things my readers seem to enjoy is fiction. Especially "Doomer-Porn". So, I write "serial fiction" similar to what used to show up in magazines.

So my currently story line needs a mail-order bride. Please share your opinions!!!

If the [bleep]-hit-the-fan and social order disintegrated and your son showed up at your house with a mail-order bride, where would you want her to have come from?

-South Africa: Speaks English. Has seen the ugly that happens when stuff falls apart. If from farm community is work-oriented.
-Southwest Mindanao, Philippines (Basilan Island): Christian pushed out by Muslim majority. LOTS of mail-order brides come from Philippines. Points against: Christians tend to be the rich land-owners and live in cities. Not necessarily the best people if thing go in the septic-tank.
-Belize, Costa Rica or Panama:They speak English in Belize. Many people coming from Latin America.
-Romania, Bulgaria, Uke or Rus: Very low GDP. Girls from rural areas used to physical labor.
-Other?

So, if you had to pick a country-of-origin for a mail-order-bride to be an asset to the family during civil disorder and a rapid retrograde to 1920 technology....which country would it be?

Western Alaskan...life is easier now, but most still know how to get the important stuff done. But it's been nearly 50 years since I was there, so who knows.

I knew a guy who married a gal from the Philippines that way. She was a lot younger, not much older than his 2 adult kids. A few years later he was dying from cancer. His wife didn't like the terms of his will. She had some mob connections who kidnapped him and tried to extort money from his kids. They were caught and he was returned shortly before he died. I assume his wife is in jail.

After 45 years in the workplace I've seen at least 30 guys try this route. I only know one who made it work.

If you're writing a story about a man's son showing up with something that could be an asset to the family after the collapse, you need to be asking about mules,....not wives.

I love my Latin woman, the ones that haven’t crossed the border and been brainwashed. Family oriented, hardworking and sexy as hell. I wonder how the process of a mail order bride works compared to marrying them in their country as far as visas are concerned
