Nope, the SEC isn't average. They are the top of the heap right now. They haven't always been at the top, nor will they always be at the top. Curious as to why some of the SEC guys seem so fixated on the Big Ten. Is the Big Ten the stick by which college football success is measured? Up til the last couple of years, the media thought they were the standard by which to judge...last year shut them up pretty good after all that whining about a tOSU/Mich rematch, only to see both of them lose badly in bowls...this year I think sealed the deal as to any remaining bias towards the Big 10.

Congratulations to LSU. The Cornnuts were outclassed and hurt them selves on top of it all. All though the game is history, the whining and gloating ain't!

The SEC teams better watch out - the Big 11 champ is getting closer to beating the SEC champ! Guess the SEC will have to upgrade their coaching staffs - well, that's already happened at two schools over the past six weeks, so check that one off. Guess they'll have to improve their facilities - well, that's being done on an ongoing basis, such that the elite teams in other conferences are trying to catch up with the mid-level teams in the SEC on facilities. Then there's recruiting - well, guess there's always room for improvement there.
National titles over last 10 years (since BCS started) 4 - SEC (LSU x2, Florida, Tennessee) 2 - Big 12 (Texas, Oklahoma) 2 - ACC (Miami [FL], Florida St) 1 - Pac 10 (SoCal) 1 - Big 11 (tOSU)
Hmmm, that looks like at least twice as many as any other conference over the past ten years. That is a lot more convincing than an isolated game or two here or there.

So why only go back 10 years? If your gonna brag, go back to when it all started and see what conference really has the best football legacy. Man, you SEC guys are almost unbearable with all the trash talk. LSU won and they are the national champs, thats all we need to know.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

See that's where you guys are mistaken: I never stated or implied that the Big Ten was the best conference. I merely pointed out that:
1) LSU and Tennessee fans are probably the only ones who can rightly brag about being the best. Because if there is a difference these two teams are where it is at.
2) The Big Ten played a much tougher bowl schedule than did any other conference. So talking to me about bowl record is disingenuous at best. Last year the Big East was undefeated in bowls. Nuff said.

AkMtnHunter,
I only looked at the BCS era, and it happens to be the last 10 years. The conference realignments happened for the most part in the 1990s, so that's another reason the last 10 years is a good timeframe to review. Feel free to look at ancient history if you wish, but lately (during the BCS era) the SEC has been ruling the roost. The French, Italians (Romans), and Greeks fondly reflect on their glory days, too.

I was at the game last night with a sponsor pass. I'm glad I just woke up and see that GA wound up #2 in the AP poll and not USC. Now USC and Pete can shut up.
All I have to say is going into this game there was NO DOUBT that OSU was the best team in the Big10....there was "some" doubt as to whether LSU was the best in the SEC atm against GA etc...and we still whipped em.
I won't even say it's because one team is better. But it's like two different planets. The SEC plays a whole different style of football down here. If a team like OSU played football like say Florida did in the 90's or LSU now - they might have a good team but I'm not sure it would do well in the Big 10. Just like playing like OSU obviously wouldn't do anything for you in the SEC.
Let's not forget in the last 2 seasons OSU is 15-1 in Big10 play......and 0-2 in BCS games - and 0-2 by a lot.
Congratulations Les Miles - bonus award of the year. Got to beat OSU (he's a Michigan man) AND a National Title. Congrats.
Oh and Kirk Herbstreet (past OSU man) can stick THIS in his pipe and smoke it!

No big deal really, i've never really been much into college football since i've never lived where it was popular, other than Spokane Washginton and that was a long time ago. Congrats again to LSU for winning the big game.

How did Georgia get ripped off? I say they did, but they didn't...afterall tOSU moved up from #7 to #1 without playing a game...including leapfrogging #4 UGA who didn't move up at all after not playing a game...LSU moved up by winning and WVU losing. Not sure how you move tOSU up while not playing but not move UGA up. Fact is though, UGA had their shot...and they had the misfortune of losing 2 games like LSU did, BUT they lost to the wrong teams, namely UT. UGA will get their shot next year...they'll be the fave in the east. May start out pre-season #1 overall.

No actually what you can see is that LSU has a great team.
The Big Ten played the toughest bowl schedule of any conference in the country. They do more times than not.
Will The Big 10 also played one of, if not the weakest regular season schedules. That's why the mighty OSU defense was ranked so high.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Ill add this...if that were to happen next year...tOSU wouldn't jump anyone...it was done this year because "it just wouldn't be right" to have a 2 loss team (any conference) ahead of a 1 loss Big Ten team...because the Big Ten is that good!" NOT! WVU and UGA would have given LSU all they could handle...not saying they'd beat LSU, but either would have made it a game.

Final AP Poll. SEC finishes 1 & 2, and occupies 1/3 of the top 15. Yep, the SEC is average.
1. LSU (60) 12-2 1,620 2. Georgia (3) 11-2 1,515 3. USC (1) 11-2 1,500 4. Missouri 12-2 1,347 5. Ohio State 11-2 1,346 6. West Virginia 11-2 1,342 7. Kansas (1) 12-1 1,303 8. Oklahoma 11-3 1,139 9. Virginia Tech 11-3 1,096 10. Texas 10-3 962 10. Boston College 11-3 962 12. Tennessee 10-4 904 13. Florida 9-4 685 14. Brigham Young 11-2 654 15. Auburn 9-4 648 16. Arizona State 10-3 587 17. Cincinnati 10-3 566 18. Michigan 9-4 508 19. Hawaii 12-1 460 20. Illinois 9-4 443 21. Clemson 9-4 353 22. Texas Tech 9-4 308 23. Oregon 9-4 253 24. Wisconsin 9-4 202 25. Oregon State 9-4 110 I also see the Big 12 occupying 4 of those slots.....don't see much of the Pac 10 in top 15, however.

The NFL rookie defensive player of the year was from......Ol' Miss. Georgia alone has had 29 defensive players drafted into the NFL in last 5 years. As has been said here many times, the SEC, top to bottom has superior talent to any other conference, anywhere. Fact.

First off, USC won 2 NC's in the last 10 years. At least make your list accurate. Second, 10 years is far too small of a time period to claim dominance by conferences. The prior 10 years the SEC only won 1 NC, does that mean the SEC sucked during that time frame?

Again:
SEC champ, runner up, and 4th place teams PAC-10 champ ACC runner up
Even if all the conferences were equal, which they ain't, no one else even came close to the quality of opponents that the Big Ten played. But, they didn't win a couple they needed to. Wisconsin pooped out and tOSU embarrassed us again. Illinois looked like the inexperienced newbys they are and played woeful.
But aside from LSU and Tennessee fans I say no SEC team really did anything to warrant rampant bragging. I mean the the number 9 finishing Big Ten team played a higher ranking team than all but one SEC school.
