Was thinking of trying a pair of S&W factory grips on a new to me Model 15-7 but apparently they are only available with a Top Secret Eyes Only Double Secret password.

Seriously, my google fu is not weak but I couldn't find these on Amazon, ebay, Numrich or any place else no matter what search phrase I used. Even S&W's own store doesn't sell them, they only have Hogue's for sale.

It's not a big deal, I'm using a set of Pachmayr grips in "seen better days" condition that work fine. It was just perplexing that for a S&W round butt K frame, probably the most popular revolver type in America, you can't find a set of modern factory grips. You can find more sets of Hogues, hardwood grips from overseas and beat to crap service stocks than you can shake a stock at, but no take-off synthetic S&W factory grips. Did they all get sent to Ukraine?

If anyone can find these on their very first search on ebay I'll be moderately embarrassed but thankful.

I bought these on eBay for my round butt J-Frame.

From the same S&W series of grips as the one in your image above.

Jim In Idaho: Have your "handled" a set of these grips?
I kind of like the looks of them and a few of my Smith & Wesson revolvers (that I shoot often/Hunt with) might benefit from a set of these?
Are they sticky feeling like some of the replacement Rifle stocks - I would like that as well. Or are they hard rubber/plastic slippery types?
TIA for any info.

I have a set on a S&W Model 617 which is why I was thinking of getting one for the Model 15. In texture/softness, if you put a Hogue rubber grip at 1 and a wooden grip at 10, I'd put them around 6 or 7, maybe with a Pachmayr Presentation grip at a 4 or 5 for a closer comparison.

They are fairly small in diameter but I like the way they cover the backstrap to cushion the web of your hand and protect the trigger guard to keep it from rapping your knuckle, but don't make the revolver sit as high in the hand as most Hogue grips do.

Very ergonomic, comfortable grips. I will try to find some for myself.

I had a late 80s 629 Classic with a little more shooting wear than I like and a little looser lockup and more end-shake than I wanted. I handled a tight new 629 with those style grips and bought the new gun because those grips fit me so well. I sold the older gun and haven't looked back.

Well, I know you folks have been waiting with bated breath for the epilogue to this search. Or probably not. wink

Either way, I'm happy to say it was finally successful.

The ones pointed out above on ebay were sold by the time I looked them up. I checked ebay again several times over the last two months but nada. MGW listed them but they were out of stock, so I put my name on their notification list.

After two months, that finally bore fruit since I got an email from them yesterday evening that they were back in stock. Took me all of about about three minutes to get on line, order and pay for one so it's on the way.

In case anyone else is interested:

Your title of your post made me immediately think of "Double Secret Probation" from Animal House

Midwest has tons of factory stuff from a LOT of manufacturers. They're my supplier for Browning parts.

Grips are like blind dates, they fit some and others are a big disappointment. So when I was in the business I absolutely refused to recommend something as personal as handgun grip, especially on nice revolvers. Of course if a gentleman came into my shop with a nice set of Ropers and wasn’t happy with them I’d suck up my pride and take them off his hands ( no pun intended ). Otherwise there is no correct answer, ever, only possibilities and then it is so subjective that no matter what there is always something better.

I literally have three fairly large boxes full of homeless grips. Factory S&W’s from J to N frame round and square butt. Ruger DA’s from the old “ Six “ series to all the single action frames, Colts offerings from the early “ New Service “ into the later day models. I can’t tell how many of my old customers and fellow comp shooters have boxes of good looking crappy shooting grips. There is no easy answer. They can feel great like new boots then after you shoot or wear them a while they hurt. Grips that feel good with moderate loads can turn into crab claws with full house loads. Those that look great on deep conceal revolvers become slippery as an eel under stress fire. What works for one shooter’s hand can be hurtful to another shooter. Now I’m not talking Bullseye/Precision offhand but everyday and occasional competition and defense. I have several old Spegal Colt Det Special boot grips that I loved until I pushed my loads to real +P loads and they slipped. I think he has since improved these but whatever. Bottom line is for serious shooters you either need to try them on and see what works or resign yourself to shopping and consider what is your realistic needs.
