I went to the local toy store this morning since I was in the neighborhood for a haircut. Had 5 or 6 1899/99's on a floor rack, nothing special and no bargains. They do have a back room though and was told there were more there. Well, two weeks earlier a collector from NJ came to the store owner with between 62 and 64 1899/99's. I asked what was the best he had and was told there was a MHG with a 26 inch barrel. Supposedly not cut and part of an order of less than 30. Went for several K's, I didn't see it. Anyone confirm the short barrel story?
One engraved model, bubba'd. Aluminum non-factory butt plate, not sure if the butt was cut, no condition otherwise, more than 3500.00. A nice 26 inch 99B takedown but I think refinished, metal and wood, 1K. Also had a 1895 308 75th aniv NIB for 1200.

I think I got the best of the rest. In between the second and third trip to the store I told the wife about what I had seen. I had mentioned a NIB EG 250-3000 for more than 2K but everything looked right, box and rifle. She convinced me I should get it. I am satisfied with the purchase but don't know what paper is supposed to come with it. I've attached some pictures, not good ones. Are they good enough to tell if the paper is right?

Nice EG and a great caliber. Very nice for any collection! The savage original muskets were 28" all of the MHG muskets were 26" (800+). One sold on GB for over $5k at between 80 - 85% condition. Do you know if the MHG was totally original?

Blair, the store owner passed along what the seller told him regarding the 26 inch barrel. The seller said Doug Murray confirmed. Who knows?

Hard to say what every piece of paperwork should be there, but what you have looks correct to me. But who am I?????

Steve, what is the serial range? Looks like a late 40's, early 50's hang tag.

LBK See that's what I told the wife, what can you do with this if you can't shoot it. Then I thought about the interest I earn at the bank and how well the stock markets doin'. Pretty good rationalization I thought.

Rick, serial is 6366XX. Since I only am vaguely aware of serial numbers and their decades I figured early fifties. There is an LBC but it's stamped too close to the edge at the bottom of the boss and is cut off. It looks like a "D" though and that would make it 1952, the year I came into this world. If accurate.

In PA. Boyers Hardware store, Slatington, PA. About 15 miles north of Allentown. The guns did come from NJ though. Ever heard of anyone with that many 99's there?

I've bought from them before. If I recall correctly, the last rifle they sold me was a Ruger No. 1 .416 Rigby.

Steve,my cousin bill lives in n.j. and works in the shipyard in phili,he knew of a guy there who had a bunch of savages he said around a hundred or so, this could be the same guy, super 250 you got there!! Don

Maybe. Story was he wanted to give/sell them to a son but the son's wife wanted nothing to do with all those rifles. So they came to PA. Woulda like to got there sooner.
