If your rifle happens to have a fast barrel like the one used in the Nosler ballistics lab then 3396 is feasible but only just barely IMO.
What kind of SD are you seeing with those loads?

What powder and how much were you using?????I cannot get near those velocities with my Tikka T-3 Lite.

MagPro powder in both cases.
74 grains behind the TSX and 75 behind the Hornady. Loads were taken right from the Accurate powder website.
I was using Winchester LR primers but will also try LRM primers.
My SD for both loads is too high for my liking though, 29 with the Hornady and 24 with the TSX. Both were just under MOA at 200 yards though.

Thanks for the info.I have never used that powder, but will now.I would not worry about that SD with that kind of accuracy. Thanks ,Huntz grin

I got high pressures in summer heat with MagPro! The load that was good in the 270 WSM in the late fall showed very high pressure shooting the loads up in the summmer. I would not use MagPro in any load.

I worked up these loads in 80+ degree temps so they should be just fine in November when it's 20 degrees.
I like how MagPro meters and I like my velocity. I haven't gotten good results with H4350, H4381,or Varget. Barely 270 Winchester velocities and similar SD and accuracy. I have had good luck with RL22. 69 grains behind a 130 grain Hornady SP average 3262 with a 19 SD and MOA accuracy. The same charge behind a Sierra ProHunter 130 grain gets me 3191 and 25 SD.
Still have to experiment with RL17 when I can finally get some but for now MagPro is my powder of choice for the 270WSM.
BTW Huntz, seems that any load I put into the Tikka shoots MOA. The Hornady SP is consistently the fastest bullet in my rifle.

Agree with you on the accuracy.I just tried out my new 6.5X 55.Shoots 1/2" with Speer 140`s.I have not chrono`d it yet.

RL 22 is probably the worst powder that I have ever tried in my 270 wsm, I had to burn a pound and a half to find that out, it is very temperature sensitive, it's lot to lot performance is erratic. IMR 4831 works best in my 270 WSM with 130 gr Barnes xlc bullets, Ramshot magnum gives me top velocity with Barnes 150 gr X bullet and 150 gr Nosler partitions, I am getting 3/4" groups with the Barnes 150's. Going to test the partition load for accuracy this weekend, I put about 400 rounds through my rifle before I found the right loads. I am getting around 2980 fps with the 150's and 3250 fps with the 130's.

400 rounds to get the right load?! DAMN!!!

My wsm LOVES 4831sc with 140 NAB's. 63-64 grains sparked by a F215GM.

I guess that's why they make so many different powders. What works great in one rifle doesn't work well in another.
As for the alleged temperature sensitivity issue in RL22 and MagPro, if it exists at all it is a non-issue for me since all of the rifle whitetail season in Northern Minnesota takes place when it's darn cold outside. Work up a good load in the summer and then check your zero before whitetail season when it's cold. Never get a pressure problem and in my years of handloading I've never seen a significant shift of zero when it gets cold.
Nothing else really matters other than that first shot out of a cold barrel anyway.

My RL22 load is fine acording to the nosler book and the RL19 load did worse as it went up in grains!

I know 400 rounds is alot of shooting just to find a good load. My problem is that my 270 wsm has a slow barrel, I was trying to get at least 3300 fps for 130 grn bullets and 3100 for 150's. I did get to 3300 plus when I first got the rifle, that was with 130 gr Barnes xlc, I was using an old lot of Dupont 4831 that was about 25 years old, trouble is I ran out of that powder, I only had enough to load about twenty rounds, it averaged 3303 for a ten shot string. I then went to RL 19, could not get much over 3250 with that powder and bullet combination, went back to IMR 4831, it did a little better than the Rl-19. Gave up on the 130's for awhile, and bought a couple of boxes of the 150 gr discontinued X bullet and a couple of boxes of Nosler partition gold bullets which are also discontinued , bought a pound of RL-22 and a pound of Ramshot magnum, I was lucky to get 2 1/2" groups with the RL 22 and the Barnes bullets, was getting about 2920 out of a ten shot string. The Ramshot was giving me about 2980 with both bullets. To make a long story short the 130 grain bullets work best with IMR 4831, the 150 gr bullets work best with ramshot magnum, I like the ramshot because it cost about five bucks less than the RL 22 or IMR powders, also as you can tell I like the discontinued bullets by Barnes and Nosler, I can get them for about forty percent less than the TSX or standard nosler partitions, I am getting 1 inch groups with the Barnes X bullets, I have yet to test the Noslers for accuracy. I have realized that my rifle will never reach the velocity that I wanted.
