Well, this refinished, bolt handle altered Model 54 in 30 Gov't came to me about four months ago. It needed a new pad and some checkering. Here is a before picture.

Note ventilated pad and abscence of receiver sight; a fresh red Pachmayr Decelerator and a Williams 5D were added, along with checkering, which has been talked about in this thread:

So, here she is. Just in time for blacktail season.

That rifle is stellar in any language.
Probably the best looking 54 in existence..
GREAT job on a classic rifle if there ever was one.

That rifle's good enough to sleep with... grin

Very nice. I could dig a rifle like that.

Thanks for the compliments guys; to answer a few questions.

1. The stock finish is likely Tru-oil; I didn't do the finish myself but I did finish the checkering and the area I inlet for the receiver sight and the Tru-Oil I used matched right up with the rest of the finish.

2. I don't know how it shoots yet as it's been sitting in the safe waiting on the stock work all summer, I'll have it down to the range this week. The bore is very clean so I expect it wills shoot well, if it doesn't, then it will be rebored to 35 Whelen grin
