Has anyone tried to make a stove from a couple of the larger Ti cooking pots on the market? Maybe two Snow Peak Trek 1400's end to end? And then cutting a whole for the flue and door opening?

ED, what is your welding process and what are you using for shielding? Material isn't cheap, I don't know if I would want to try it or not. Local place sells remanants of 5" x .065 wall welded seam round tube for approx $10 an inch plus $10 per cut.
Just curious,
Phil

Grey,
I'm using a stainless canister with the door forming the open end. All fixtures are riveted with stainless rivets.
Version #2 will use a titanium foil pipe that I ordered from DJ at Titanium Goat along with several changes that should drop the weight to under 3 lbs total weight for shelter and stove.
For those interested in the stove jack process I will also post some pictures of the jack process.
Just remember that installing a wood stove in a GoLite or most other sil-nylon shelters is not something that the manufacture condones and specifically warns against. (Any heat or flame source) So if anyone does so its without warantee and at your own risk.

Yup, as good as Golite's customer service is, I'm not asking them to repair the cinder holes in my SL6.

One big pro to a ready to setup stove is well the darn thing is ready to go just need to roll out the stove pipe. Stainless canisters work great for this. Less fab work and welding.

Last year I ran over to Ti-Goat and I had my concerns about a stove in a nylon tent especially sil-nylon because it is flammable. He did a demonstration with a scrap piece. Basicaly the stuff would not burn unless you held a flame directly on it. If you moved the flame it stopped immediately. Now I do understand the dangers but this little demonstration gave me some piece of mind too. At least now I know that the tent will not go "Poof" like I thought it would.

About five states require that all tents sold in their boundaries be fire resistant treated. Look for notes referring to CAPI-84 standards, which is California's. This is what you experienced with the flame test. I would make sure I was dealing with fire retardant material, or use a treated tent as a starting point, or it might indeed go "POOF".

Sam,
I for one have been using non-flame retardant shelters with wood stoves since 1985. haven't gone poof yet!
Glad to have you on the board. Have you thought about talking to Rick Bin about paying to advertise your shelters?

To Ed T,
And may your tent NEVER go POOF... But if you want some assurance, use treated fabrics for your projects, or check your tent ratings. Most tents sold in the USA are treated... who could ignore the California market? Only a few "specialty" suppliers. Sparks will still burn holes, but even direct flame will not spread easily.
If I bought my rip-stop at Wally World (which I have done, to sew tents to test) I'd also look somewhere for a fire retardant treatment. Just as a precaution... no Poof is welcome here!
And, is promoting my tents a "breach of etiquite"? I AM proud of the design.

Sam,
