I very much had the idea from inception.
Where's the 7-08,308 and 358 Critter pics, with the particulars to same, regarding disctance, boolits and the like?
A half filled box of 223 ammo,is fairly impressive too.

Feel free to take a swipe at citing something I've mentioned as being inaccurate.
Where's the critters?

Your entire premise that the 7mm-08 is somehow a "better" general purpose hunting cartridge than the .308 is false.
I, and others, have conceded the point that using one single bullet the 7-08 will provide a smidge more energy, and a smidge less drop, than the .308. At ranges that nobody hunts with 'em anyway.
What you can't do, and won't be able to do, is show how that smidge of "energy" (your term) makes one bit of difference. Start there. But you can't.
The CENTER will hold.

Say a little something about the load particulars for your paltry Range Queens.
No blood on any of 'em?

Before we can go forward, you need to clean up your mess.
Explain how 100+ ft/lbs of energy (give or take, I don't know the particulars of your load) at 600 yards makes any difference to the critter.
Then, explain why you can't spin a turret to 15.6 MOA, that you could spin to 14.3 MOA.
You've been dodging those (for good reason).
The CENTER will hold.

The 7-08 is a superior chambering, due simply to bullets.
I asked and you purposely ignored: "In your "vast" experience, what do you deem as minimum impact velocity/"energy" to effectively crunch a Buck, under the assumption of nice placement and of the non-CNS type?"
Feel free to expound upon how the 7-08 becomes less effective, the closer that hair gets to the muzzle? That'd be a new one on me and I've shot it a bit.

Here's a quote from a guy you might know. I changed the particulars a bit, just the cartridges though.
"Let's do it this way. Under what circumstance would you gun an animal with a 7-08, that you would not a .308 and more importantly why?
Be careful.(hint)"
How does your own chit taste? Probably familiar.

For conversation, the 7-08 from it's 225yd zero(+2.5" at 100yds),arrives at the 600yd line with 2011fps,1454 ft lbs of "energy" and requiring 10.8MOA ele and but 3MOA in a 10mph fullvalue.
You don't know the particulars of anything, but that surely don't slow you down talking like you THINK you do.

Over 2800 fps with 162's from a 7mm-08, eh?
Why don't YOU post your load particulars. That's astounding.
Oh- and you can't knock me for not knowing particulars about your load that you haven't shared, dope.

My two ballistic calculators agree with other, but not with your numbers. They show ~ 1900fps at 600 yards, with your data.
Maybe your computer is faster than mine. Grin.

No blood on any of 'em? "Milk" was a good movie, but then again I'm not homo-phobic.

Feel free to source a computer that puts the 7-08 at a disadvantage.
You'll likely need to dial 1-800-IAM-RONG and ask for Al Gore's input upon the matter. He "invented" the Internet and perhaps he'll be able to invent software to jive with the nonsense you perpetually invent. He doesn't like blood on his rifles either,so you gals will have lots to talk about.
I reckon atmosphere and ele slips your pea brain, but AirSofters are not predisposed to input Real World conditions,so as to extract Real World results...which'd be a touch more than obvious.
I'm curious, does it hurt to be that stupid?

No dog in this fight but I would reckon Jeff your numbers are at sea level.
I'm a little hung over this morning so my math skills are slow but I would think Try Me's data is from around 3150 feet? Not having his atmospheric data, temp, wind values, etc for his load that is what my math shows.

What a mess of a thread! Well, I will pick neither the .308 or the 7mm-08 as any of my hunting rigs. I tried the 7mm-08 once with my daughter in a featherweight model 70 Winchester but to much muzzle jump and muzzle blast to suit her needs.
I just don't seem to fathom the this or that some put on the .308 or 7mm-08, the 30-06 is much more to my liking period. It will drive bigger bullets down range for the biggest of animals. You drop in a 130 grain bullet and go hunt antelope afar if you like, with plenty of velocity and flat trajectory to make those .270 folks sit up and notice.

No critter you shoot will know the diff between the two.... This was the first response on page 1. Kind of answers the question, don't it?
