You mean the "hand puppets" that you post your picture on so that you can "make love" the six months out of the year that you are not home. Larry, you ARE a genius...

Admittedly,my genius is hardly secreted.
I've an uncanny knack for leading others around by the nose and it's hardly secreted that noone does it better.
Old news,on both counts.

Damn Larry. I wish that I could buy you for what you are worth and sell you for what you think you are worth. Bill Gate's would be envious...

Larry,
How come when you have no answer, you merely recycle prose. Be original man...

Larry,
Have you seen the movie "Everywhich Way But Loose"? I now know how Philo felt in the end when he saw Tank Murdock in that position...
Get up Larry. You can do it...

My pole-vault over the mouse turds:
-Trajectory differences twixt 7-08 and .308 are a non-issue. Compensation is necessary and easy, either way, out past XXX yards.
-Energy differences twixt the two are even less of an issue.
-Recoil differences twixt the two are a non-issue; if you can shoot one, you can shoot the other.
-They come in the same rifles, so that's a non-issue.
They are very very similar, they do the same thing practically speaking. Flip a damn coin, go hunting. Getting the time off, and $$, and tags, and hunting partners all together is the hard part, not deciding between two nearly identical cartridges.
Either one benefits greatly, by being necked up to .35 and headstamped .358! :-) My .358 was a 7-08 for a half-dozen deer, and has killed a half dozen as a .358. The .358 is mo' betta'.
For anything bigger than deer, I'll use a bigger rifle than a 7-08 or a .308 anyway. Why? Because I can and it makes me happy.
The CENTER will hold.

The only tough call, is if "big boy" pants comes in your size. How in the hell do you ever find 42X22 pants?

Ran some numbers, just for you.
Let's go backwards. Explain to us how the 125 ft/lbs or so of energy that the 7-08 with a 162 AMax will carry at 600 yards, over the .308, matters one bit to the critter being shot.
Or if you'd rather, how the 14.3 MOA drop is so different than the 15.6 MOA drop... given rangefinders and turrets and reticles and so on.
Or... you get the idea. Maybe you don't. Shouldn't assume, with you.
When you get done with that, explain why in hell a guy would be hunting at 600 yards or farther with a 7mm-08 (or .308), anyway.
The CENTER will hold.

TryMe, I see. You are Ballistic Minutia Guy. What you are saying is akin to saying that a Yamaha dirt bike jetted for racing fuel, is better than a Kawasaki dirt bike running regular fuel- FOR HIGHWAY CRUISING! In other words, you are choosing an obscure bullet that nobody wants to use, and postulating a use (extreme long range hunting) that nobody uses a 7mm-08 for... and THAT'S your point? Wow. Guess you win. Pat yourself on your hairy little back. But just to return to reality a bit, here's what the original poster said: thought about 7mm-08 in rem mod-7.gun store has used but never fired one for sale $200 less than a new one. would use it for brushy wooded area on deer becouse of its shorter lengh than my rem mod 700 30-06.is this better than a .308 win in this type of hunting?one gun writer says it's recoil is a little more than a .243,but if the 7mm uses 140 gr. bullets and .308 uses 150 gr. i thought it would be closer to the .308.not worried about recoil just the muzzle blast and muzzle lift, plus i reload for the 30-06 so have plenty of .30 cal bullets ,is it worth saving 200 dollors on gun then have to buy diffrent cal. bullets as in is it that much better hand have less recoil than a .308 win So for practical hunting purposes, and certainly for what the OP is talking about, what I said below is "As True as it Gets". And you know what's extra funny? You KNOW IT.

While this has been fun, I am going to cut bait and call it a night. Not that anything that was thrown at you tonight was in anything but good fun, have a safe flight home and spend some quality time with the kids...

More than a touch humorous, that you can't even run JBM and profess a practical knowledge of the wares in the flesh,as per field "experience".
