I would most certainly buy a quality 99 if I could work the safety left handed. The shotgun type safety would not suit many around here so would it be possible to make the lever safety functional from both sides of the lever?
Locking problems?? I thought 99's were perfect.

I think that you would have more success with this initiative if you made an annual run of 500 to 1000 "99 Classics" in a single configuration, instead of trying to produce a lot of different "custom" configurations. This seems to be the key to Lipsey's success with their runs of non-cataloged Rugers. If you pre-sell these rifles, payment in full at a 10% discount of suggested retail, I think that you'd have a better chance of success and you would have less financial risk.
I can think of dozens of variations that could keep these annual classics in limited production for the rest of my shooting life.

All said, the Savage 99 is a genius of a rifle. Although no longer produced, it remains highly revered, as it was the foundation from which Arthur Savage built one of America's great gun companies. >> (Jon Y. Wolfe) <<

You could probably have a chunk of your annual production committed by giving fools like me the opportunity to buy the same serial number every year. I could handle S/N 1 or 99!

Well I guess ya gotta draw me a picture as to what is the point from a buyer's perspective of a new run of 99s.
Have got premils and prewars with plenty more out there to be had.
Also do not think 1500$ will get you prewar fit&finish today.
Just saying.

A 99 T would be my guess.

If they were in the $1K to $1.5K range, I'd probably buy 2 each year, particularly if I could be sure of getting the same SNs year after year.

Yep,
I would do the same. They could make two every year, one in a modern caliber and style like the 99F starting with a 7mm-08. One in a more retro calber and style starting with a 250 Savage.
Make 500 of each per year, they would sell if the quality were there, and they should shoot close to moa with good triggers right out of the box.
I take Serial number 7 every year.

Sounding good! I really like the idea of a small action. I reload and shoot .32-20, .25-20, .218 Bee. I have a couple of later production Marlins and a repro Win 65 and 53 in those calibers that would go down the road for a new a Savage small frame lever design.
This limited idea would get us `99 nuts closer to something we would buy than a mass market rifle. Keep us posted Mike.
Just to refresh your memories, Mike Blank (GunGopher) was at the last Savage Fest but most did not know at that time how he was connected with Savage.

I must have been on a different wavelength...I thought 'T' might have been an obscure code ala texting.

If you can keep it in the 1-1.3K range, I would buy several. Especially if you offer different calibers every year. Or offer 2-3 standard calibers with an additional run of that year's particular caliber. I mean always have .308 and 1-2 other calibers, like .243(blah), 7-08, or .358 in stock or made every year. And then do a limited run of the more obscure calibers like .300 Savage, .250-300 Savage, .284, etc... A different caliber every year. I don't need anything fancy. I don't care which safety you settle on, provided it doesn't need a key or some other stupidity like that to operate it. I don't even care which stock you put on it, as long as it isn't a cresent style with a sharp metal butt pad. I would definately get a .308 for each of my daughters. And I would be more than happy with a .358, .300 Savage, or 250-300. If you go with a standard caliber and the limited edition, you can capture 2 markets at once. The regular hunting crowd who would want a higher end rifle in a common caliber. And the rest of us nuts who want something a bit different. Not to mention the obsesive crown that must have them all...

Not surprising it's a no go. The cost of making the 99 put it at a disadvantage to their competitors back in the 50's and the dropping of the rotary mag seemed to be the end. Even today the costs are still high enough to discourage Savage from a re-introduction. Besides Savage would have had to deal with certain flaws like the tang crack in order to make it work. It may be quaint today to speak of the "ole tang crack" in the 99's with some sort of nostalgia but today's buyers would find nothing "nostalgic" about a $1500 dollar gun with a cracked stocked.

I'm not seeing it. Why would I spend more money for a rifle that's a reproduction of a classic when I can still get the original for the same amount or less? I'd have to admit that a .22 Hornet would be way cool though. Maybe set up like the 250-3000's were. A nicely figured and finished perch belly walnut stock with a choice of tang sight or scope D & T. Oh hell, now I'm doing it.
Just thought, if they came out with one in a reproduction of an EG .358 for a $1000 or so, then maybe I could justify buying one for hunting. As of now, the prices for .358's make them impractical for everyday elk hunting.

By miles and miles the neatest of the prewar 99s, far nicer than the postwar 99F.
