I am going to use my favorite load this year. 235 Speer at 2650. Works very well and I can get 250-300 yards with practice.

300 gr Hornady SP over H4350. Was enough and worked effectively. Little meat damage but quick kill.

Like everyone else, there was less meat damage than I first expected. I've only used the 250gr swift a frame and the 270 gr XLC on deer with it, but will try it with 235 TSX next time.

Marginal at best on deer. I'd suggest the 458 Win Mag or better yet the 458 Lott. Need the stopping power in the event of a charge.

Big slow bullets simply punch holes. They don't give you the hydrostatic shock, or fluid shock that fast bullets do. The animals I have shot with .375's and .44's didn't even act like they were hit. I knew the shots were good, while the guys I was with were saying, "You missed, you missed, shoot again!" In about a minute, they tip over. Caliber sized hole going in and slightly larger going out. No blood shot meat. Flinch

Somebody better ask Beefan-he's been making his .375 H&H work really well on deer (and antelope on his last trip to Wyo) for quite a while. Using 260gr Accubonds and good ol' R-15, it does a fine job. Big hole in, bigger hole coming out, and they never looked like they hadn't been hit.

I killed three deer last season with mine. I used the 200 gr Sierra Flatnose and 41 grs IMR 4759 for 2250 fps. All three deer were instant bang flops. Nothing else I have ever seen in my life performs as well. I will be using it again this year, you betcha! Did I mention that there is no recoil whatsoever. A little child could shoot it. formerly known as whelennut

Minimum caliber at best. I use my .378Wby for marginally more insurance (risky). A hot loaded .505 Gibbs keeps the charges to a min as well.

Have another couple of deer tags to fill. Perhaps I'll haul the .375 along and try it out... Why not?

I have only shot one with my .375 H&H. It died rather quickly from a 235 grain Speer. I am going to try a 35 Whelen this year.

Anyone else use a 375 H&H for deer hunting? Seems it works fine on our little roe deers, so it should work fine on your big NA deers. I killed a yearling roe buck in 2008 and a roe buck last summer, using 300 grains NP, and it worked perfectly. Immadiate kills, no meat damage.

SuperCub, the folks at Speer told me the same thing. It was designed for the hunter who wants to use a .375 H&H for deer sized game! My Dad always said, if you want to hunt everything and only use one gun that you know well, the 375 H&H is it.

I am sure my "deer load" for the 375 won't destroy a deer because it didn't blow up this coyote @ 60 yds!! I used a 235 Speer @ 2750 fps.

375 H&H for deer ... c'mon. They're deer. Not a prehistoric mammoth. :-)

Does LESS damage than a 270! Everyone wants to kick us for using a .375 caliber at low velocity, but NOBODY has a problem hunting deer with a .50 cal muzzle loader with even heavier bullets at the same velocity!! Jim Shocky has used his .50 cal Encore in africa to take Rhino and Elephant, so I guess they should be considered too much for deer as well! Doesn't look blown apart to me! 235 Speer @ 2750

Seriously...I am extremely interested in this debate, but I am feeling some saaaaarious sarcasm! Is the .375 H&H too much cannon or not?

Seriously...I am extremely interested in this debate, but I am feeling some saaaaarious sarcasm! Is the .375 H&H too much cannon or not? Not. Particularly if you use traditional loadings...270-300 gr. bullets... You will find it does less meat damage than say, a .270 Win and 130 gr. bullet....and itll leave a blood trail.. As with many other calibers things on deer sized critters get messy when someone drops down to a 225 gr. bullet and tries to get 3000fps out of it... Shoot even little deer with the same load you would use on an Alaskan moose, and you'll be pleased and surprised with the results.. Ingwe
