Here is one of mine (the other is the exact same thing in Chrome Moly). Just a plain Jane Model 70 Classic .338 with a Conquest Scope. Shoots very well if I do my part.

Sounds like there are a lot of leftys out there! I too had a LH model 70 338 WM. It never would group well for me and I ended up selling it. A good buddy did take a cow elk cleanly at 250 yards with it. One shot behind the shoulders and the next thing you saw was one hoof up in the air. I've owned three 338's and killed my first elk with one. Currently don't own one but I have a LH 700 338 Ultramag that is one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. Had it ported to help with recoil and now it kicks like a 30-06 and shoots 3/4" groups at 200 yds with the 225 gr Accubond. Hard to beat that. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another 338 Win mag if the price was right.

I resisted for the longest time, but I have finally admitted to myself that the .338 Win. mag. is the best caliber available to meet my big game hunting needs, which today are almost exclusively focused on elk. CP. My .338 Win. mag. Classic 70 action with a 22" PAC-NOR barrel and a McMillan featherweight stock That's a seriously nice rifle!

Here's mine. I don't really "need" this rifle but always wanted one and couldn't resist when I saw the stock. I don't blame you. I think that rig could of walked with many, with taste.

Ok, since it looks like all the lefties are posting coments about the 338 win mag I guess I will too. I have had 3 ruger m77's in 338, the first 2 were stainless with both pepper and brown laminate stocks. They were excellent shooters and averaged 1moa. I opted to sell these and switch to all left handed rifles, but to my dissapointment found out that ruger's biggest (left hand) caliber back then before the hawkeye was the 300 win. I don't realy like the 300 because of the short neck (I know stupid reason) and I feel like a monkey f##$% a football with the left handed action and went back to right handed rifles. I bought a very nice ruger 77 in 338 2 months ago and still haven't fired it off. But atleast I'll have it for next seasons elk hunting trip. I can't say enough good about the 338, it is extremely efficient, easy to load for, many bullets and weights to choose from, inherently accurate, recoil is manageable, and it has tons of knock down power with pretty flat trajectories with the right bullets.

The 225 Accubond is a very cool bullet in a .338; in my rifle it's crazy-accurate and it has such a high BC that it makes a great longer-range bullet, too. My .338, getting some long-range work:

I just bought a Winchester Model 70 Classic stainless synthetic with a 2 x Burris in Leupold quick-detachable mounts. What's strange about this rifle is that it has a 24" barrel with factory-installed iron sites. I have another Model 70 Classic stainless synthetic that has a 26" barrel without iron sites. Anyway, I shot it last Sunday with a few factory loads that I had laying around and it looks like it will do OK. I plan on keeping it for my "rough-duty" rifle. The .338 Winchester Magnum is my favorite elk cartridge and I use 250 grain Nosler partitions for that purpose.
Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.

I like the FW stock for that purpose and would not have thought of using it for a 338....but that is slick....!

I have a first year production(1959) mdl 70. It has been my go to hunter since about '66. A tad on the heavy side though. pak

I've got just one now. Model 70 SS Classic. The other was a Model 70 Wood/Blued Classic. The Stainless has been all over with me. I love the gun, and the cartridge ain't bad either.
I use the 210 Nosler mostly, and it kills like the Hammer of Thor. Grizzlies to Deer, no problems so far.

210's is where I'm at ATM. TSX's got a thorough workout, now I'm onto TTSX's. Think TT's are a bit better IMO, but I need to put a few more on the deck to give the thumbs up over the TSX's, for my thing.

I am on my 3rd 338. The first two were browning a-bolts. The first one kicked like a mule so I got rid of it for one with the boss. It shot great, but was too loud. So I had the boss taken off and the barrel cut down to 22 3/4". After that I never could get it to shoot right and the recoil was flat out BRUTAL. So I finally got the perfect 338. It is a Remington 700 stainless action that has been trued up an MPI stock in olive drab green with black spider webbing, gretan shroud assy, jewell trigger, and 24" barrel W/vais muzzle brake. It has a Luepy 2.5-8 in quick release mounts. This thing has shot everything I put in it under an inch. I am currently searching for a 225gr Accubond load that has more spped than my current load of 2623fps. This is with 70 grains of IMR4831.

I heartily second trying R19, that was always the speed demon for me in a 338.

I use RL 15 for most of what I shoot, but earlier in the year none was available so I bought 8 lbs of AA3100. Right after that I found some 15 so I started using up the 3100 by loading 338s with it. I found that with the 3100, velocity takes a hit, but accuracy was improved a lot. I'm still chunking a fair size bullet at a decent speed and it's more than enough for my hunting

I have a .338 in a M70 SS Classic, barrel shortened to 23" and threaded for a brake I don't use. I have the thread cover on it. Trigger is at 3 lbs. It has a metal follower and a .375 H&H spring from Wisners in it.
It has iron sights, Warne Premier QR rings and bases, a 2.5-8 Leupy and a Mc Millan AHR stock with a 13" LOP and a 1/2 in Decelerator pad for hunting, a one inch pad for the rest of the year.
I have had it since 1994. It has killed a few deer and a few elk. It is my go to elk rifle.
Easy to load for, very accurate. I mostly use 225's.

I shoot a Sako 75 SS so chambered, had it since 1998 or so, I zeroed it once and just check before hunting. Killed a lot of Moose with it and a couple of elk and one bear. Nothing special. Its one of the rifles I kept when I down sized my rifle collection a couple of years ago. Says something about the cartridge and the rifle.
