Have you used the 160's for hunting? I have never, but have often thought of them as a bullet for the bigger stuff with a .270. It would be fun to hear from a few guys that have used them.

Nope, never shot anything with a 160 partition. I often thought that if I ever took a .270 elk hunting, that is the bullet that I'd use but I generally hunt elk with a .338 WM.
Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.

For the 140's I like the Hornady and the Sierra HPBT along with 57/H4831, 54/IMR4350, 57/R22 and 57/7828.
150's I like 57/R22.
Normally, I use W-W brass and CCI BR2's.

Dober, have you used the Sierra HPBT as a hunting bullet? I know the 165 grain in .308 is tough is the 140 like it?

Yes it is, it's a good one. I wish that Sierra would make a 338 in the HPBT design. I've also used the 160 in my 7 Mashburn Super quite a bit as well.

Winchester brass, CCI BR2, 58gr of H4831, 140gr Accubond or Interlock, and I have always gotten over 2900fps 20" to 24" barrels. And I have always gotten MOA.

The Sierra HPBT's in 257, 277, and 308 cals are great game bullets. Sierra will tell you that they are the "toughest" bullets that they make (stouter than their SPBT GameKings or Pro Hunters) and are generally about as accurate as their MatchKings.
Just 'cause a bullet has a hollow point, doesn't mean it was meant for varmints. The 257 120gr Hornady HP is tougher than their 117gr SPBT. Guess you could say that the X and TSX bullets have a HP, too.

The Sierra 160-gr 7mm HPBT Gameking is their toughest 7mm bullet.

The Sierra 160-gr 7mm HPBT Gameking is their toughest 7mm bullet. might be important if we are talking about 7mm bullets, but i believe the poster wanted to know about .270 and .308 bullets. try again lee!-keith

UH----- Barnes.....fragment? I think not. 55gr 4350 130 TTSX there is no reason for a 140/150 in the 270.

ohiohunter,
I mentioned the Sierra 7mm 160-gr HPBT being their toughest 7mm bullet because so many uninformed people believe that all hollowpoint bullets are fragile and "made to fragment".
Sierra's .277 140-gr HPBT is their toughest .270 bullet, according to Carroll Pilant, Media Relations Manager at Sierra. Sierra does not make a 150-gr .277 HPBT, but does make a 150-gr in SPBT.
I shoot the Hornady 150-gr SPBT and Remington 150-gr RN in my .270s.

you are going to have a tough time trying to convince me that the sierra 140 gr. HPBT Gameking bullet is tougher than a 130 gr. SPT Prohunter. -keith

I am not trying to convince you. I just conveyed what the expert at Sierra said. Call him.
