You're dang right! I'd take it hunting too. That's what rifles are for. I never really appreciate a good rifle until I've taken game with it. If it isn't good for that, what good is it?

That is one of the prettiest rifles I have ever seen. Congratulations!

Jack O'Connor, Jim Carmichel, Craig Boddington, our own JB, and many others take their pretty rifles hunting. I have a couple pretty ones that go out regularly, too. That's what makes 'em really special.

Congrats!! to you and Jim...damn that's nice.
That's a nice looking (great looking) classic rifle. I like the addition of the bottom metal, sling swivels . Hell I like all of it!!!!
and yep, I'd hunt with it.

Folks, thanks for the many kind words,I was away from the rifle for over 12 hours today and it hurt... To answer a couple questions, yes it will get hunted, perhaps not on a float hunt on the Mulchatna river but certainly time in the woods/mountains every year. I only had time to mount the 4x leupy and shoot a couple 100yd groups w/factory 140 accubonds around 1"-1 1/4" or so, plenty of promise for even better, I suspect. With all that figure in the butt it's not a flyweight, scoped it's pushing 8+ lbs, a trade-off I can live with. It balances and feels wonderful. I must say between Lee and Jim we're blessed with a couple of great smiths here on the campfire and I feel very lucky to have worked with both of them. Jim poured his heart into this stock even knowing I only had a small budget for him to work with, above and beyond you could safely say. I do hunt and enjoy my sythetic stocked rifles, but a wood stocked rifle like this gets me a whole different kind of jazzed.

I want to have everyone look at this magnificent stock again. Gunsmith Jim Kobe has created a fine work of art. Its not only great art but a functional rifle. Just look up at the top of the picture at the neat extra wood that covers the bolt release.

Look at the extra, but just perfect zags to the checkering pattern. There is far more to this work. What a pleasure just to comment on the rifle. Congratulations to you both.

handwerk: Well they ARE different.... smile

They may lack the true utility of a synthetic when it comes to really rough going;may weigh a smidge more...but,anyone doubting their field-worthiness need look no further than the 30/06 and 7x57 carried all over the world by Eleanor O'Coonor,Jack's pair of 270's that helped account for game from NA to India;or Page's "Old Betsy" Mashburn that traveled the world

..... what I've found with them is that,if crafted by someone who knows his onions,no BG rifles I've picked up have the unique balance and handling qualities of a finely crafted wood stocked rifle....there is something about the balance and construction that just makes them feel "right",and they "fit" to a "T".

I love my synthetics but if reduced to just one BG rifle it would have to be something like what Randy has there....lovely rifle, worthy field companion....very nicely done!Enjoy!

Well,I guess with all the hype,I'm sure it has driven up the price!!LOL
You have my standing off of $50....or I have a table at my house it can sit on...Or it could ride in my truck everyday,in case something needs to have a "red mist" around it.....
HUNT THAT PUPPY AND ENJOY!!

Any info on how the finish was applied? That looks great by the way.

Ex, Sorry I don't know much about the finish, other than I really like the look and feel of it and I suspect there might be more than one coat(g) on there. Try Jim, he might let out his secret?
