Mine is a 1873 Winchester sight from Dixie Gunworks. I just got a better one for a 1886 Winchester from Midwest Gunworks. Both have a 3/8 dovetail and will go right on the Marlin.
I also replaced the stock front sight on the Marlin with a blade front that has the blade made from a copper penny. You can cut the height of this blade to put you 3 inches high at 100, and YOU CAN SEE the copper in any light. Good luck, and if you make the conversion, contact me and I'll walk you through it.

Great thread here... Really enjoy reading about others shooting 45 bores. My brother (Arky Jack on some forums, passed away Christmas 2008)and I were/am 45-70 lovers. I have three-two Marlin 1895s and a replica Sharps. Use cast bullets almost exclusively and shoot silhouette steel a lot. Been to Africa, but on a Navy Carrier so no DG hunting for me. The Lyman 457124 is my choice for most shooting. For the levers I blunt the RN just a little. They shoot three shots overlapping in all my guns. Do the job on big pigs and deer. Wish I were 60 again and I'd still hunt Montana but those days are gone. My advise is hunt all you can, while you can. Poor vision, old injuries and diabetes may get to you too, one day. So have fun and take lots of pictures for that's all you'll have left when your body is worn out. Collect Marlin, Savage, and Mausers Ancient Rifle Smith

sharpsguy- where does one get a ladder sight for a marlin cowboy? Pull up the Buffalo Arms website. In the gunsight section, look for the "Smith Marlin" barrel sights. My 1895SS wears one. Very nice barrel sight, however, they are regulated for range with the 1200-1400 fps 400 grain bullet range. Give 'em a look. Also, as to the 45-110 I presented to Jorge, the poor soul thought I wuz doing sumpthin' NICE!! It wuz worse than hooking him on heroin!

jorge is had, that's for sure. Wait until he gets back from west Texas with an Axis deer with that 45-110. It's going to be pitiful, I tell you.

Yep! I have another Sharps on order, but like ET says leave it to sailor to dress it up like a 50 dollar hooker! I've ordered all kinds of upgrades! jorge

Collect Marlin, Savage, and Mausers Ancient Rifle Smith i have old injuries, bionic eyes, and diabetes. So I bought a yamaha grizzley to pull me around. Works pretty good. One of my buddies is a cancer survivor and suffers from a lot of nerve damage from the kemo. He gets on that quad and it is like watching the sundance kid hit the spurs. And by the way, one of those marline guide guns fits real well on the quad
