Boar. A 6' MT bear is considered big .... not so much in AK.

Right on. It had different facial features than I'm used to looking at, so that's why I asked. I look at as many bear faces as I can, and I still can't say I have it figured out!

The face appeared a bit odd as well, though I would of thought if it were a sow that the nose would of been a bit shorter. be interesting to see how old/young it is. Do the teeth appear worn or young?
Nice bruin either way that's for sure!

These two aren't from Montana, but they did come from right across the border in the Selway. The black one was taken on Monday, the chocolate on Saturday. Pete

The chocolate we took with hounds. The black one...I kind of ran into on the trail on my way to a bait.

Question for you MT bruin hunters...
Are you required to salvage meat? Do you? What does your typical hide/skull weight for the pack out? Meat weigh? Thanks! I've been watching a good un through the spotting scope, but I'm not sure if I want to go get him now or wait till after June 1st. (meat salvage requirement ends)

We have to take the meat...
If I'm way back in, I'll "clean skin" the bear just like a beaver. Also detatch the the bones in the paws and clean as much meat off the skull as possible to help lighten the load on the way out....A large boar from this part of the world in the spring will make a pack weighing in about 125 to 150 pounds, meat, hide, and skull. They arent as large as the bears you guys kill....not even close.
Luck....is the residue of design...

We got skunked but not for lack of effort. I'll try and get my bear this fall.
Great time had by all though.

Travis True... It was fun as hell. Go ahead and tell the group about the Neopolitan Bear I missed one two Saturdays back that was maybe a 6' Chocolate/rust color with black socks. I threw rocks all over on his feet Turned out he was just over 400, and I thought he was closer to 200. I'm done looking at the world through a Loopy Wide Duplex. I got a good feeling about this weekends backpack trip into Nunya River this weekend. Since season is still open, I'll be taking the Kimber along
I'm Irish...
Of course I know how to patch drywall

No LRF with you for the day? The wide reticle will do you just fine if and when you know the range...grin
Just glad you missed him totally!

I'm done looking at the world through a Loopy Wide Duplex. If my math's right, it's either really a 3 foot bear, or you thought it was a 12 footer when you shot

Randy, I think your math is backward.
