Don't give Dan a too hard a time, he's harmless. I'll third the motion of a good time hunting with Dan and Travis. Dan and his folks are good people.

Found 4 bears today while out scouting. 2 of them had big bear swagger, but it's hard to tell when looking at them from over a mile and a half away. Spotting scope pics. Hard for me to get a good pic on 45x. I need to practice it I guess.

Turned out he was just over 400, and I thought he was closer to 200. I'm done looking at the world through a Loopy Wide Duplex.
It's the scopes fault you don't know the difference between 200 and 400 yards?!

Randy, I think your math is backward. *It's either actually a 12 footer, or you thought it was a 3 footer when you shot*

Have you been having any luck up in your neck of the woods (since the sow run in)? My counts at 13, but no bears down yet.

Yeah I finally got it figured out, just took me all damn season to get my thumb on them. Nothing of any size so far though. Season closes up here a week from today, so I need to make something happen in a hurry.
You ever see mr. big again?

When you spend your entire life looking through a standard duplex, it gets to be a habit. Thats all I'm saying... I'm glad I had it happen on a bear than the 190 class Muley I have tied to a tree

I have a moral problem with packing a LRF Mark... For years I've used the height of Back-to-Briskit/Subtention in MOA superimposed in the duplex method. 3 things happened to screw me... It was 30 degrees uphill... I don't hunt bears enough to guess B2B in inches... The Wide Duplex in the FXII 4x Loopy is about 878" across at 100 yards... Fear not I have a 2-7x33 with the LR duplex just sitting here. For the last several years, I hadn't needed a rifle to shoot anything past 200 yards around here. Then I stick a fixed 4 on a 308, and true to my luck, I start needing hardware for 400 yard engagements

So, have you seen the light?!
If you are having trouble figuring out 200yds and 400yrds, it might be time to do some reading on this great forum. All the info you need is right here. You could be posting hero shots of a bear right now..

For once Calvin, I have to agree with you.
Now if it were a Muley (about 20" B2B) and I had a standard duplex, the tip of the duplex in the middle of the vitals would've made a dead Deer.
But for Bears (that vary greatly in size), across an uphill canyon, I could see an LRF, and using the B2B method to confirm the reading.
I grew up using Mils, and being told that LRFs were hell spawn. Thats been a decade and a half ago though...
