For those of you who are not aware, Steve Redgwell, a member here, makes a 200 gr 303 bullet in several diameters up to .314" for loading 303 Br, 7.65X53 Mauser, 7.62X54R, etc. He may not be too excited about me starting this thread, as he is pretty busy mowing ditches and refueling the mower with his grandson , but for those of us who have been lamenting the passing of the old Dominion 215 gr KKSP bullet made in Canada, here's a source of a very fine big game bullet made in our own back yard. Especially for those with rifles that have bores that are on the big side, the .314 bullet has turned a few that I am aware of into very accurate rifles. Hopefully Steve will chime in here with either an update on these fine bullets, or a request to shut down the thread. Ted

Thanks for the kind words Ted, but I haven't made them in two years - except for personal use. There's been no demand.
Sometimes I think that the old 303 is going the way of the Do-Do.

Say it isn't so Steve. One I have has been a part of my life since I can remember, and I own 5.
I think reason will return once the present infatuation with super magnums abates. A heavy well constructed bullet at moderate velocity puts game in the pot.
A lot of the bullet failures we have seen are with cup and core ar hyper velocity. I have never had a bullet failure with 30/30, 45/70, or 303.

I'd like to think that you're right about the magnums.
Every year I must be using the wrong ammunition. Either that, or the animals are too stupid to know that they're falling over with wussy cartridges.
Perhaps I should change the name of these bullets to incorporate the word "magnum" on the box. Something like, 200 grain Bulbous Magnums 200 grain Exceedingly Magnums 200 grain Utterly Magnums 200 grain Hugely Magnums 200 grain Terminal Magnums

Terminal magnums may be the ticket. Most people hunt more on the computer terminal than they do in the field if they think a cartridge has to have much more than a 303 or 30-06.

I have a 338 winchester minimum. It used to be a magnum, then I grew up. It is now a 338-06 belted minimum. Randy

Some guys here(me) are waiting on pins and needles for the delivery so they can shoot them. Some guys brothers are arranging a side by side comparison shoot with the no1H in 405 Win. That will be a fun afternoon.

Well, I am about to again load a few more of these 200s for a couple of young fellows who will go afield this fall and slay moose and perhaps big bears, with them. Loaded with Norma 204 and magnum primers, they will be loafing along at close to 2300 fps........... will keep you posted. Ted

You guys just don't get it do you. Those flippen rifles are butt ugly and lifes too short to hunt with an ugly rifle.Nothing wrong with the down range balistics. The last time I saw one of them old rifles was in the bottom of my old mans grain truck behind the seat. I think it's still there, that was 35 years ago.LOL

Diehard 303 Enfield fans. Got to hand it to them for that. You can get a heavy hitter and great scoped modern rifle and still be packing less weight with about 6 inch shorter. I'm not talking dicks here. LOL Have a great day 303carbine.

One of the guys at work got a big Alaska mooose,250#+ quarters, shooting a 270 with 160Partions. It took a number of well aimed shots. His take, a 303 with the 215s would have worked a lot better.

His take, a 303 with the 215s would have worked a lot better. Maybe, maybe not. Two yrs ago I shot a very small bull moose at 100yds with a 375 Chatfield-Taylor loaded with 260gr Nosler ABs. It took three well placed shots to put him down. There was no indication of impact at all with the first two well placed/broadside shots. I think it could have gone the same way with just about any reasonable cartridge incl the 270, 30/06 or 303 with heavy bullets I don't think moose understand this ballistics thing we all debate on the interweb. .

Contrary to what many elk hunters think, a moose is never an easy kill. They absorb a lot of impact, and only a central nervous system hit is guarunteed to stop them where they stand. They will die with a frontal low chest shot, but not necessarily immediately.
My Dad used to say shoot tthem until they lay down. Not bad advice. Slow heavy bullets have always killed well, but then so have lighter 165+gr faster bullets. As always shot placement is what puts meat in the freezer.
Oh, by the way I am a 303 fan.
