Need to build the 223ai bad but can't decide on barrel contour? Thinkin either another #1 rock or MR with blk/org MR handle I'd vote MR stock and MR contour... Might look something like this...

I just started shaping a rough stock blank in maple for a Rem 700 7mm-08 I picked up. I need to send the barreled action off to be refinished.
We'll see how it goes. This is the first stock I've tried to make from something other than a blank, so we'll see if I can make it work with something that's been roughed out.
Otto is my co-pilot.

280AI, Rem 700, Brux #3 fluted, McMillan swirly MR stock
250AI Rem M7, Brux #2 fluted, McMillan swirly MR stock
Fluted the bolts, hollowed out the handles & slabbed some off the action on both of these. Got to load some ammo to make sure they feed & function, then tear them apart to have the actions Cerakoted.
243AI on FN SPR action, Brux #4 fluted, McMillan swirly supergrade stock
Heavy 223AI that I haven't done anything but aquire the parts
Where all the white women at?

If you had mentioned a swirly in orange and black...I might have curled my lip. But looking at it...all I can say is awesome!!

I'm thinking of a 6mm BR, .272" no turn neck; Sucks short action and an Accuracy International 2.0 stock, Krieger Light Palma barrel, SS, 8" twist finished at 29". Should be fun.

700 250AI is at Mcmillan having barrel channel inlet fixed....not their fault. 1/3 brown 1/3 black 1/3 purple swirl and Rock LVSF dupe. Its a bit nose heavy so going to cut it back a bit.
Sitting on two 8 twist 224 rocks and waiting on a 3rd. Will probably go light on one in a #2 and going into a McWoody Swirl Compact in 223ai . And heavy on the other with a 5hv Rock I already have and a A5 in 22-250ai
Finished 70 Classic in 25-06ai with a Douglas #2 and a brown blind mag Mickey Edge. Yet to be fired in new stock but drivin tacks in old stock.
And about 5 others in various stages of completion.

Funny you should ask.
I didn't have any projects going until I walked into the local pawn shop last Saturday. He doesn't have many long guns, but he had an old '06 that somebody had spatter painted with gray paint. Thing is the floor plate and bolt looked like a pre64 model 70. Sure enough it was and a featherweight to boot circa 1956. I had my smith adjust the trigger and I've taken the first layer of paint off the original stock. It looks remarkably like one of those McSwirleys with some of the wood showing through the paint. The LOP is under 13" so I've got to find some walnut and redo the recoil pad.
Old guys like old guns.
