I am working on my father-in-law's 336 as it has a "jamming" issue. If you load the magazine with any number of shells and then lever one into the chamber, the shell carrier will not bring the round up far enough before the bolt starts forward. This causes the end of the round to jam up below the chamber. If you fiddle with it, it will finally feed appropriately and eject with no issues but will jam up on the next round. I have removed stocks, bolt, & lever, and cleaned thoroughly. The carrier comes all the way up with no round in place. It does not appear to be a dirt/debris problem. Has anyone had this situation before or possbile remedies?

There is a lot of specific help here http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php/topic,67550.0.html
Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

That sound as if the carrier or lever is worn. The carrier has a tooth shaped bump on the bottom that cams over a lug on the lever. If the bump is worn down or, more likely, the lug on the lever is worn it will cause your condition. I have seen some "would be" gunsmiths grind the lug down in the mistaken belief that it cures the "Marlin jam". A condition that occurs in the Marlin 94 and not the 336.
Try the lever from another Marlin 336 to see if that cures the condition. That will tell you which part is bad.

JBLEDSOE- Thank you for the reply. I pulled a lever out of a different 336 that I had laying around and the gun chambered all rounds perfectly. I then put the "bad" lever in the other gun and it too chambered all rounds perfectly. I switched the levers back and the original gun would not chamber a round a jammed. Switched levers again and both guns worked....I guess I'll leave them that way.
Thanks again for the help.
