lhonda; Thanks for the kind words sir, I do appreciate them very much and will do my best to deserve them. I would love to see any and all GTO photos! Those years of A bodies were my favorite somehow, so whether it's a Buick Special, an Old 442, Chevelle or a Goat, I liked 'em all equally. My '71 T37 was a sedan version A body and was as close as I'll likely get to owning a GTO. I believe I don't possess the self control needed to own that much power anymore. That and frankly, our eldest daughter who will begin to drive this summer appears to have inherited some of her father's weaknesses. I've already warned her not be racing our slightly modified '03 Cummins 4x4 and she swears up and down she won't...... Thanks again sir, I do appreciate your kind words. All the best to you and yours this week. Regards, Dwayne Here's a 'SOMFB!' moment: my dad's elder sister (by 19 years) was widowed without children. We (brother and I) were here little angels, and we loved (and continue to do so, with her at the age of 91 now) her. When I was around 15 my old man mentioned something in passing about a car he sis had owned. Specifically, a '52 Bel Air, with a 4 speed. It had been her husband's, you see, and had apparently sat, garaged, for 25 years. She claimed nonchalantly to my dad that she hadn't thought anyone would want that loud, fast machine that she feared. She GAVE IT AWAY to a local mechanic 3 months before this conversation. Don't get me started on the extensive rifle collection she had the local PD come out to 'take off her hands'... ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! P.S. I love when my buddy fires up the Goat. Flip-up headlights spin, cylinders and pumping pistons come to life... Aw man, when cars were cars!

Wish I could post photos...computer illeterate.....but it's as good as it sounds. Top off, windshield down on the hood and a 196 CI 4 cylinder.....cylinders as big as a cantilope and torque out the ass....with a 12000 pound power driven winch (from the engine....not by with electric).

I think I had the most fun in a 55 Chevy two door wagon I had with a mattress, curtains, etc. in the back. Like a bed room on wheels to a 17 year old. We'd pull in backwards at the drive in.

68 Dodge Charger here as well, but always had a soft spot for a stock gold 69 Chevelle SS with a 396 in it, everything stock and amazing how many cars it beat.
wasn't mine, best bud's sister who sold it to his younger brother, but we drove it for him for a year till he turned 16.
it was the least we could do.
lucky we didn't wreck it, can't say the same for my bud's 68 GTO or my 71 Dodge Charger
us boomers may be old, but we drove some hella cool machines in our day
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

67-69 Camaro Z28 with the JL8 4 wheel disc brake option.
That high winding DZ 302 engine was sweet and powerful while being much lighter than a big block.
I'll always have a soft spot for my very first car though.
A 71 Nova SS, 350, 4 speed Muncie, 12 bolt positraction rearend sporting 4.11 gears. This car had power brakes but no power steering and a bench seat instead of the heavier bucket seats.

I agree with just about all of the cars mentioned here and I have owned my share. Like others, I always wish I would of been able to kept all of them as they would of been extremely valuable today.
One of my all time favorites is sitting in my garage for the last 20 years. It is a 67 GTO Convertible, 400 CID, Ram Air, 4 Speed. It is Linden Green, White top, black interior. It also has the 3.55 posi rear end.
Sadly, I don't get to drive it much anymore mainly due to poor health. Before anyone asks me about buying this, let me say absolutely NO WAY IN HELL will I ever sell this car. My health is slowly improving and hopefully I will be back on the road going like a bat out of hell with the top down this spring.
Thanks for bringing up this subject about muscle cars. I have really enjoyed reading everyone's postings.

I own, or my son does...lol The first one. 70-440 Cuda cloned as an AAR but has 71 gills added. A 1979 modified and painted Imron, Black with cherry pearl and metalflake, AAR emblem is airbrushed. Second was taken last year in the Garage at Watkins Glenn by a friend who is the engine tuner for the #2 Kurt Busch car....Man, gotta drop a few pounds.... Kurt came down and talked to Darren before the race, unlike most drivers who don't go to the Garage race morning. Kurt got 2nd that day. Others I have include a 74-360 Challenger, 56 Ford F-100 in Viper red ( son's truck) and dad has a few cool cars also. Dad's firebird convertible, a 400 HO car supposed to be light blue. He also has a 55 Chevy 2 dr HT with an 88 IROC Z drivetrain. Allen

For old stuff, I liked the '69 Chevelle SS. I had one, and really liked it. That said, it was NOTHING compared to my present 2005 GTO. Vastly superior in every aspect, as it should be, after so many years.

If I had plenty of money, like, won the lottery or something, I don't know if I'd even bother with any old cars. My wife's got her '76 Camaro that they bought new. I'm gonna do a light restoration on it for her, but other than that...

How about a clean 1964? This is my younger brother's Thunderbolt. 427, gobs of power, and his daily ride.

Had two. First was a 67 GTO, 400 with automatic, 3:41 gear. Second was a 71 442, 455, fully built to W30 specs, headers, aluminum intake, tricked T400 trans, 3:91 gear. This thing would change lanes when it shifted. Super car.

1967 Chevy Nova SS. 327/365 Close, but no such animal from the factory. My favorite for the street was the 1966 L79 Chevy II 327/350. We restored and sold the one 15 years ago and it was recently displayed in one of the casinos in Vegas. We saw it last year and there were several of the original parts that were missing. Too bad. It was a black on black air car with the numbers matching block. It scored a 971 at the Nova Nationals a couple of years before we sold it.

First one? 64 Plymouth Belvedair 426 factory four speed bench seat only mods: fenderwell headers, deep oil pan small tubs for slicks
68 Ford Galixe 500 the fancy fore runner of the Torino Fast back luxury would cruise 120 mph all day long
Current one? 1972 Saab Sonett III framed now rear wheel drive with a SBC 350 Lincoln IRS, Miata front crossmember.

My first new car was a '68 GTO - Verdoro Green with white interior, Ram-Air III 400, 4-speed, 4.33 rear end w/posi, flip-up healights and Tiger Paws. This had the sweetest-sounding factory exhaust this side of a big block Vette with side pipes.
I actually preferred the Charger R/T, but they cost a few dollars short of $4000 - the GTO came in at a bit over $3600. The Vettes were close to $5K, and could NOT be insured by a single man.
