The Ruger XG1, the 308 version of the mini-14. Ruger spent 2 years attempting to get the rifle to hit a target on the first shot but would hit the target on the second shot. Ruger dropped the project.

Sorry I didn't identify, it was the gyro jet, in revolvers, rifles and under water fish spears. nc

don't see any references to that on the web....and they didn't make revolvers, although there was apparently a prototype pepperbox.

as useless as they turned out to be, I'd be surprised if the gov cared one way or the other but if you've got a link I'd like to know more.

That one really lets the chuckles, giggles, 'n' gurgles bust loose!

At the invitational confabulation where Remington introduced that fine new panacea to the writers, Remington's merchandising cognoscenti appended the usual invitation "Any questions?" to their customary song-and-dance routine about how it was designed and designated for good sales. (For example, "We feel that the market is ready for a new cartridge with a metric designation.")

"Yeah," Elmer said. "What the Hell's it good for?" (for hunting or shooting, one crucial attribute that the Remington folks had completely neglected to address).

(Actually, it's a pretty good cartridge! But one important thing that Remington's very expensive market research never told 'em is that hunters and shooters simply don't shiv a git whether Remington stuff sells better in a green box with yellow lettering or in a yellow box with green lettering.)

Didn't say I didn't want one, or that it wouldn't be fun, just that it was a flop. Thought when they came out that it was something worth buying 'cuase they wouldn't be around for long - proved myself right again. Just missed out on the buying part.

8mm mag has more energy at 300 yards than a 30-06 has at the muzzle. wink

I really don't think the Savage 101 revolver could be considered too much of a success. However, I did run into someone once who was looking for one. laugh

What about them Accelerator Bullits, did any of you ever give them a try? IIRC you could get like .30 caliber bullets with a sabot down to .25 or .22. I bought about 3 boxes in 30-06 and never even found the paper. Switched back to to regular 150s the same trip to the range and was right back in a little group. Seems like they were in a green box (Remington), but it was a long time ago. Maybe the early 80s never seen 'em since and wouldn't buy 'em if I did.
