I thought the front sight was so high so it could also be used as a gut hook.

I bought a bunch of the sabots in 30/22 caliber and the seating tool. Never could get my handloads to group any better than my shotguns. Mine are free to good home too.

At the invitational confabulation where Remington introduced that fine new panacea to the writers, Remington's merchandising cognoscenti appended the usual invitation "Any questions?" to their customary song-and-dance routine about how it was designed and designated for good sales. (For example, "We feel that the market is ready for a new cartridge with a metric designation.")

"Yeah," Elmer said. "What the Hell's it good for?" (for hunting or shooting, one crucial attribute that the Remington folks had completely neglected to address).

(Actually, it's a pretty good cartridge! But one important thing that Remington's very expensive market research never told 'em is that hunters and shooters simply don't shiv a git whether Remington stuff sells better in a green box with yellow lettering or in a yellow box with green lettering.)

8Rem Mag is a fine round, its just a shame that I never bought one when available... I may still do a custom of it though....

It spawned the rest of the manufactures to make some of the chit they're pumping out now. Savage, marlin,...hell, even remington has the 715 or something like that. Still a POS. And now it appears they're going away from the 870 to the 887. Why in the world would you build something to take sales away from one of the most well built, useful, shotguns ever?

Oh, didn't mean to imply anything wrong with it, but it did bomb originally
sales-wise, right? A friend of mine bought one at a pawn shop a few years back, sold it because he couldn't find ammo. Agree with the "ahead of it's time" With the current craze over 17 rf's around here, have to think (most) folks were just not ready for it back then.

I really like the 17Mach2. I had a CZ LH 22 re-barreled for it. It is a great round with a strong following. Ammunition sales are strong. I think Savage will do well enough with sales. CZ would be wise to keep it in production in their 455 model. I don't see it as a lever, auto, pump or hand gun round. Strictly bolt gun fare for small game and target. Having said that I gave my H&R single shot to my son, it shoots lights out accurate.

I like it too. I got one of the heavy barreled Rugers with laminated stock when they first came out. It is the most accurate rifle that I own. I always wished Smith would have chambered a revolver for it, like they did with the 17HMR.

I have a Remington 504 rifle in 17M2 that is my go to ground squirrel rifle. Used to use the 22 LR on them but many crawl back to their holes. Hardly any go anywhere after being hit with the 17M2.
