Naive question here, ive never seen one in person. How do the wood stocked Kimbers balance? Are they butt heavy like a Rem Mtn Rifle? Or no? Thanks.

Best thing about the whole rifle is how it handles. Pretty much how I feel about my Montana. Thought it might be harder to steady in field positions and that hasn't proven to be true.

This is actually my brides 84. A 7-08. After she killed a springbok and gemsbok in the Kalahari in western RSA(Apr/May 2011), she let me borrow it! I like it so much, I want one myself. I also think the 308 is borderline too light, even though I love the rifle/round. Would you explain why you think it is almost "too light?"

I also think the 308 is borderline too light, even though I love the rifle/round. Would you explain why you think it is almost "too light?" Not trying to speak for Mac, but for me if it had a bit more barrel weight it'd be about model perfecto. 21" and .6" at the mzl would be the way I'd do it. Dober

I have Brad's old 308. I think I'll sell that push feed 270 Winlite I bought from Fosteology and get another Montana in 270, or a 84M in 308 for the girl friend, or another Montana in 243 for me.

Dober Do the smaller calibers balance noticeably better due to more "meat" in the barrel?

Dober The 84M MT lacks weight (like Mark said, especially in the barrel). The 84L MT has a bit more weight and length that helps settle it down better. When I get another 84M MT in 308 I'll put a scope in all-steel QR rings and put open sights on it... will add another 1/2 lb and will help it settle down a bit better. An 84M MT in 308 with scope in QR rings and open sights is what I call a Wilderness Wandering Rifle...

Was pondering the open sight issue myself the other day. Have several other with NECG goodies and want to do the same with my new 7mm-08. I use a patridge front, banded ramp front and single standing rear.
Which are you looking at?
