I have a Remington Mohawk Model 600 Chambered in .243 that I got New from my Grandad as a Birthday Gift in 1976, It has had all the Recals done on the Safety/ and a New Trigger assembly installed by Remington, It has see thru mounts, a Swift {Bausch&Lomb} 3-9x40 Gloss scope on it. All Original wood with a few wear spots on the Forearm and Pistol Grip, Less than 50 rounds fired, Well Maintained,Very Accurate,I shot a woodchuck with opensights leaning on my motorcycle seat at age 14 at 325 yards and killed my 1st deer at 185 yards, before I could afford the Scope. I now have the Opportunity to buy it's Sister for my Son, No Scope,Gun is in better Cosmetic shape than Mine and Owner claims only 15 round since New, Any Idea what She is worth in Dollars. Thanks Guys. I know alot of you "Know your Guns" and with out a Father most of my Life, I like to look in the "Right" Direction for Advice. Paul

Paul,

Remington 600's have prices ranging from 350.00 in beat up, absolutely pathetic shape to several grand for an original, like new 223. Someone posted a NIB 600 in 308 I believe, for 1200.00 on the classifieds and I doubt it will sell to anyone but a collector.

I seem to recall there were about 64K 600's manufactured. I don't remember if that included 660's or not but that is still a lot of rifles.

I look at them all the time and personally, I would not pay over 500.00 for a 600 and the vent rib and trigger guard would need to be in excellent shape.

My reasoning, for the same price I can pick up a Model 7.

FYI...you can get aftermarket aluminum or steel trigger guards and vent rails. Most of us that have them have done so. I've kept the originals just for resale value.
The price will range depending on condition of course, but the cal. will also play a big part in the selling price.
They were a design way ahead of their time and now if in the most sought after cals they will get upwards of $1000.
I see them selling for $500-$600 in the 308.
Do a google search for Remington 600 mohawk and you will get a good idea of pricing.
I have a Remington 600 in 6.5mm Mag and wouldn't sell it for $1500, I like it so much. Just to give you an idea.

The Mohawks were a cheaper version of the original 600. Less desirable wood, no rib. If I'm not mistake it was made in the late 70s to clean out the used parts left over from the 600s/660s. IMHO for $500 it would have to be in excellent condition, 4-450 would be ok if it's in good shape.

This is what I would do:

Go to the GunBroker web site.
At top, type in the search blank....Remington 600. Look for the option to choose Current Auctions or others and arrow down to Completed Auctions. The Mohawk should come up within the '600' grouping , or you can redo as Remingtom 600 Mohawk.

You can do an average to dtermine the price, but I am guessing it will be in the $650 to $750 range.

Don't mistake them for the standard 600 which is/was more desirable. Odd calibers add more, ie anything other than 243,308 and 6mm. Don't compare a 243 to a 35 rem. for example. The market on them isn't what it was a few yrs ago so don't rely simply on the asking prices, do as highrock mentioned and search completed listings. It took Cabelas several months to sell a nice 350 Mag for $900, the 600 is a step down from that and the Mohawk being the bottom rung.

The three Mohawks I own all have walnut stocks, not the later birch "less desirable" wood. I'm not sure when Remington stopped using walnut on the Mohawks in favor of the cheaper birch. Of course, the Mohawks did not come with the barrel ribs.

True on the calibers, 243, 308 and 6mm are normally less expensive than all others. But I still see crapped out 600's at ridiculous prices.

The Mowhawk is more desirable to me because it does not have the vent rib which can cause issues with accuracy as the barrel heats up. I never measured the muzzle but I *think* the Mohawk barrel is slightly larger than the 600 but I may be wrong.

A Black Walnut replacement stock can be purchased fairly cheap here:

Thanks For all the Responses and Advice, And Thanks for the STOCK Listink, I have been looking at replacing the one on mine as she is well used.
The Gentlemen is asking $550 for the Mohawk 600 + Shipping costs and it has an Origan 4x Power Weaver Scope on it.
Here is some Pics. Let me know what you think. Or if I should just pick up a Model 7/700 Thanks again. Paul

Overall the condition is good, or course, there is no way to determine the condition of the barrel and throat. That is a Birch stock, fine for a new hunter. The scope would probably be worth a 100.00 if you want to put a newer scope on it.

I would not pay over 500.00 because shipping is approximately 25.00 and the same for the FFL.

Just for thought...I passed on one a month ago in .243. It was in nice shape...a few minor hunting marks on the wood with a weaver base for 425.00. It had been for sale a long time....I think it's probably a local thing but they are not an easy sell here.....Albeit I think they are a fine weapon.

I have several Mohawks and mine in 308 was built in 1972 has a walnut stock and gold trigger.
My 243 has the birch stock as does my 6mm.
The 243 is very popular and if it's really clean with original butt stock unaltered and still has both iron sights intact expect to pay at a minimum of $400.00 if the seller knows anything at all about gun values.
And in my opinion that would be a low price.
These are really very good rifles and quite accurate too.

They are basically worth what someone is willing to pay for one, the last one I bought I paid $300 for it, granted it wasn't in the best shape but it is a good shooter. So are you wanting the price for your gun or the one the other person is trying to sell. What you should do is hand yours down to your son and just get you a new one, I think that would mean more to him than one just like it.

I was looking for a Price on the Other one, Considering all the Costs factored in I would have over $650 into it, So I will Pass.
I thought abought giving Him the one I got from my Grandpa, Just thought it would be neat to have the same guns as each other to shoot with.
I think we are going to Redo the stock on this One together then I will give it to him, Or If I can find a Nice Stock for it I don't have to Modify too much I will do that. At Least I know mine is a Shooter, I shot a Rabbit at 325 yards paced out with open sights resting over my Motorcycle seat when I was 16, got my First deer with it at 175 yards, He only went 15' and fell over, Shot alot a woodchucks at 150+ so I guess thats that.
Thanks for all the Help. Paul
