OK so far it's a collection of one, but i'm considering doubling it.

This is the specimen in question. It's ser:543xxx - i don't understand what those mounts are.



It's purpose would be as a deer and elk rifle for my wife here in Western Oregon.

Can anyone tell me about these mounts? Far far from a model 99 expert, but i don't recall seeing those before.

Simple weaver mounts I am not a purist but several here would say stay away, I would like to see a few more picts.

Looks like common Weaver scope bases from that angle.

Thanks guys. It's going to be a hunter, so i'm not too worried about collectibility.

I have my great-grand dad's 1964 model 99 that i'm refraining from drilling and tapping. Granted, it's not a rare specimen, but it's beautiful, so i'm not going to molest it.

One more question. Does that appear to be an aftermarket stock?

The ad says it's a "sweet shooter", comes with 100rds hornady 150's. 2 boxes core lokts, i think 50 pieces of brass and a set of rcbs dies for $420.

Not super excited about the stock. I actually like that it already has scope mounts since it's going to be a meat getter. barrel looks like it could use some re-bluing.

I'm kinda iffy at this point but there must be well over $100 in extras there.

If it was built in 1964 it is factory drilled for scope mounts. Is it not??

The wood looks well done, plus the extras, it's ready to go, I would snag it for a hunter absolutely! 300 Savage I'll assume.

I'll check my serial on mine and get back to you. I could be wrong on it. Definitely not drilled & tapped. Has a marble rear peep.

From one I can see, it should be a fine shooter and hunter. It may not be a collector gun but it ain't an ugly rifle either. A fine one to use for what it was intended.

I find that the Monte Carlo stocks are a nice feature if using a scope. Keeps me from sort of resting my jawbone against the wood to get a good scope picture, because the crosshairs sit so much higher than the regular iron sights regular stocks were designed for. Ladies might find this to be even more pronounced a problem. If you are just using iron sights, the regular stocks are great. I think that quoted price for $60 worth of bullets, $35 worth of dies, a rifle set up to shoot a scope, and some brass, which does not seem to be too beat up, is just fine.
