Surprised that Roger didn't talk you into the 6.5 ICBM (Inter continental ballistic missile). 120 grain Nosler Ballistic tip squirting out at 3,800+ fps. Barrel life sucks, but what do you expect out of an 8mm magnum case necked down to 6.5 . I'm sure digging the 7mm-08 with 120 grain pills at 3,100+ fps. A bunch of bucks, hogs and even an elk haven't complained at all. I have it dialed into 700 yards. Not to bad for a gentle nudge on the shoulder. Flinch

I almost did the 6mmAI. He's building himself one. He called me and this was already built. (He built it for himself). He's building a 6mm AI now for himself. Either caliber doesn't suck.

My only reservation is fire forming. I was thinking if I go the 6mmAI route I'd get 2 barrels for it from the jump as I have a Remmy action wrench and I could swap the barrels here.
Flinch... them boolits stay together at those velocities?
That sounds interesting... may have to play with those numbers a bit.

I used a full case of R-22 and the 140 Sierra Gameking in my Mod 700 lightweight 6.5/06. McGowen XX 23" [old McGowen] #2 barrel got over 3000 fps a bit and VERY sub MOA. As I recall about 3060 or so and the R-22 was about 58gr or so but DO NOT quote me. Great deer/elk/? rifle. Aloha, Mark

I don't think anything but some sort of mono bullet stays together at 3,800 fps. Things do crumple in a hurry . Rumor has it that you need to shoot behind the "cape" line, or forget mounting the critter. They make a heck of a mess. One of the guys Roger built one for shot his muley buck at the base of the neck (I don't recall the range). It totally decapitated it, according to Roger. Flinch

Just got off the phone with "the man"
he was talking to me about the 6.5 ICBM... holy smoking velocities batman!
There are some CRAZY stories about what happens when a 120 gr bullet meets an Antelope!
Thinking I'm going .260 for 123 grain pills...

Same/same as 6.5 STW? or different dimensions? Sounds nasty!

He ran the 120gr pill at 3800 fps. Body matter separated from the foundation!

Very nice rig. I'm just getting started in putting together a 6.5/06.
Did he have to open up the barrel channel any on the stock to fit the barrel contour?
He went over yonder way
