Somebody tell me if I am mistaken please. See GB auction item: Auction # 284529392 The link is: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=284529392This gun looks to be a modified barrel for a .410, with the wrong attachment method. Looking at the lower pics, I can even see marks where the barrel-band for the screw is supposed to be. Yet, the seller is representing this gun as being un-changed, and factory original. If I thought is was the real-deal, I would buy it even at this high price, but its just a 99 with a modified .410 barrel. I welcome your input. Somebody is really going to buy an expensive con here, or am I wrong?

those extra holes in the side of the frame really put a damper on calling it original... and considering Savage was not even making 410 barrels when that frame was built, its real hard to call this original... there is enough wrong things here to fill a bucket... I am simply blown away by the price.

I guess that is why you can always come here and ask if something is right or not. Never hurts to ask unless pride overides common sense.
As far as price. Apparantly, somebody thinks they found a vintage vase from the Ming Dynasty when actually it is a $1 flower vase from the last Valentines Day.
And here is the really odd issue with me. There are lots of bidders!

I read it as a uninformed seller. Photos show the problems and buyers have time to do their research before typing a number like 1600.00.
Edited to say that I agree with the original poster. The description does a good job of making it sound Wonderful. Buyer beware.

very unlikely to be more than a single shot. This statement is a blatant error: THERE ARE NO EXTRA HOLES ANYWHERE

My guess is that someone made a .410 barrel by re-boring and shortening an 1899A rifle takedown barrel. How else would it have that barrel address? It certainly didn't start out life as an 1899H barrel. The wall thickness at the muzzle is too thick, methinks, to have been made from an H barrel. Nice gun, though refinished and w/extra holes. Would have been a neat curiosity, but at a fraction of what it sold for. Probably points and handles like a butt-heavy club though, not like one expects from a decent shotgun. But still...

I asked this seller a lot of questions. He did not answer a single one. If there was a way to report him, I would have. The barrel even showed a mark where the screw-strap was originally fastened. Hard to understand how he can have good feedback with this behavior.

If there was a way to report him, I would have. The folks that run GB don't give a flip about lousy sellers. I have lodged complaints in the past and been soundly ignored.

Side mount, sort of like on a shotgun? Now that I look more closely at the full profile picture I can see it.

In it former life this gun was originally a take down H (most likely a 22 HP), that somebody put a scope on. It was after that that it was "reconverted" to a shotgun. Judging what the gun went for.........I wouldn't be surprissed to see a few more of these "specials" show up on GB in the near future.
