To the OP, I am very sorry to hear of your wife's diagnosis, but keep in mind that today breast cancer is very treatable.

I am fighting cancer myself right now. When I was first diagnosed, my insurance company gave me a choice of 2 treatment centers for my particular form of cancer that they would pay for. The choices were Froedtert & The Medical Collecge of Wisconsin, or University of Wisconsin Hopspital in Madison. As it turns out, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin is considered one of the leaders in the country for treating my type of cancer (Plasma Cell Leukemia), and it's only 7 miles from my house.

My advice is contact your insurance company and get their advise and rules for dealing with your wife's breast cancer.

Will be praying daily for Sherri's complete healing and for you as you support and uplift her. She sounds like a very special lady. Our God is miraculous and hears our prayers.

Been there and done that. There is life after cancer and it can be a long one. Try the Mayo Clinc I know people who have had cancer and been pleased with the Mayo Clinc.

I hope all goes well for you and Sherri.

I will pray as well and also echo the MD Anderson comments. My mother and mother-in-law both beat breast cancer. I have two daughters and the odds are not in either's favor. I spend much time praying for them already....

Prayers sent. I do not have the direct experience of some members here with maybe "inside information" that being close to someone who has suffered cancer might have. However I am in the medical world and actually work at the Texas Medical Center so my opinion about MD Anderson center might seem biased, but it is truly a leader and pioneer in the world.

What is paramount is that you, your wife, family and friends find a team of doctors and providers who make you feel comfortable. It will be easier for you to trust them and undergo treatment and tolerate side effects that way. The environment in which that is to be done is also important, whether it is a center closer to home for follow-up convenience or emergency visits or if you are fine traveling back and forth that is a decision that you have to make carefully.
There are a lot of really good centers, and as someone said you need to get the one that has seen hundreds of patients with a condition, not someone who sees 3-4 a year. That however comes with the potential risk of "just being one more", so personal skills are a major part of being a great doctor.

Another vote for MD Anderson. The center in Orlando treated my MiL very successfully.

Thank you to ALL of you who have replied and are praying. WE have been on the phone much of the day trying to arrainge an MRI ASAP, and on the phone with UW Medical center and Cancer treatment Centers of America and are leaning toward the latter.

Deductables, travel, co pays etc being what they are I am Probably going to have to have a fire sale on guns so be looking for smokin deals over in the classifieds.

Blessings,

MARK
