Oh yeah, that just means it's mo' better! That little dog should get to kill at least 3 ungulates this year... I'll drag it around after a buck, my brother will borrow it if he wants, and I may even shoot both antelope with it laugh

I'm hoping mine will amass a small truckload of ungulates this fall, as well wink The menu includes a bull moose, a bull elk, a black bruin, 1 WT buck and 2 WT does, 1 MD buck and 1-3 MD does. Of course, this is mostly all pending on the successful selection of hunting draws laugh Plus if my brother or dad feel like using it to hammer an elk or two, they're more than welcome. grin

It really depends on the which zone you apply for, here in AB. I can draw a bull moose tag every year in many of the northern zones, and if a guy wants to be able to hunt moose within 30 minutes of the big cities like Calgary and Edmonton, you've usually gotta wait about 4-5 years. I've never been a big fan of waiting, so I try to make the trip to the north western zones every year. The hunting is better up there, anyway. I won't hear back about all those draws until the middle of July. The next few weeks will be rough. Again, I'm not good at waiting *grin*

I'm thinking a Montana in .308 would be perfect for a sheep/moose combo hunt. You better stick your nose to the ground and start looking for one! grin

Both the deep freezes are about 2/3 full, but I've still got time. I better get the family on a high-protein diet, pronto! grin

I grew up on a pretty much pure wapiti, deer, and 'lope diet myself laugh

Do you have little ones yourself? If so, hunting yet?

It doesn't get much better than that!

Yeah, I have a 2.5 year old little guy, and an 8 month old baby girl. The 2.5 year old doesn't have the stamina to go out hunting, yet, but you can't convince him that guns and hunting aren't the coolest things in the world! grin My little girl JUST starting eating solid foods, and most of the time she won't eat baby food, but she will sure pack down the venison steaks (cooked medium-well :P )!

Every time we see a deer or moose, my boy says "Deer.....we shoot it...", or "moose....made of meat". Cracks me up every time smile

The white webbing gives it a bit more texture too, which I really like. I haven't even clear coated it and probably never will because it's holding up so well.

Jordan, that's awesome man! I didn't know you had babies, that is freaking cool. I was about 3 when I first started getting dragged along for 'lope hunts, but I'd just kinda' sit in the truck and eat skittles and watch Dad shoot stuff! That pic you saw when I was just a youngster, I believe I was 4, maybe 5. He's almost there!

Yeah, he's getting close! I'm thinking another year, or two at the most, and he'll be ready for his first day hunt!

You could do like Dober did with his G-Son and stick him in a pack... He'd be riding in style. That would be a total hoot! That seems to be the stuff memories are made of.

Hey Dober,

Well, I live about 3-3.5 hours from the Montana border, and you need to drive about 4-6 hours north of where I live in order to get drawn every year. The good stuff starts around the latitudinal centre of the province, and gets better as you go north.

The moose hunting thing is a bit complicated. A non-res alien (referring to non-res, non-Canadian hunters) must hunt big game under either a guide/outfitter, or else a hunter host. If hunting with a hunter host (usually a friend or relative), the non-res hunter may hunt only certain species, and may not hunt game in a zone where the license is obtained through a draw. I just had a quick look, and didn't see any rifle seasons that are non-draw, but plenty of bow seasons. I'd have to call in to clarify, because the regs state that a non-res alien can hunt moose with a hunter host. Let me know if you want me to find out for you smile

Thinking your standards might go up after you start using Kimber Montanas more seriously grin
