Both sons shoot 270's and want to try to work up one load for both, the rifles are a remington 700 mtn rifle and a browning Abolt , both have 22" barrels .I have nosler 140 btips and 150 hornady sp on hand and imr 4831 , rl19 and h4350 powder but will try another powder if i need to . What is good velocity to shoot for ? thinking around 2850 to 2900 , but that is secondary to a good all purpose load .

2900 is easily achieved...
I'm behind the times.. I prefer 4064 with the 140s...
if I have to have maximum thump then I go with the 160 grain SMP Partition and a load of H 1000 behind it..

Best powder I,ve used is RL22, H4831SC, and IMR7828SSC. I had best bullet results with 140gr Accubonds and 140gr Speer Game Kings. Still working on 150,s and powder.

Same goes for me except my experience is with 150's. Prob best accuracy goes to RL'22. Stuff some Partitions in there and go [bleep] 'um up!

I have owned a bunch of 270 Win's over the years and the most consistent accurate powder for the 270 is Hod or IMR 4350

My best groups were with the 150gr Sierra Gameking and IMR 4064, and I did try some 4350, but that was with 130gr pills.

140 accubonds and H4831sc are magic in my .270. I've been very please with accubonds 130 in a 6.5X55 (H4350), 140 in 270 (H3831sc) and 165 in a .308 (Varget) all near max.

What I would do is load up five of the 140grs and 5 of the 150 grs of each powder about one gr under max and see what each likes. I wouldn't be surprised to see all of them work great. I'm not a fan of B-tips for hunting like mentioned I would go with a Nosler Accubond or a Hornady Interlock in a 140 gr. Good luck.

I use 140gr Accubonds over H-4831SC from a 22" tube. Whenever I push to reach 2900fps I start seeing pressure signs. Accuracy is exceptional with 58.0gr @ 2850fps. I'm going to try RL-22 next just because.
This load has replaced other great loads using 130gr SGK, 150gr GSlams, 140gr SSTs, and 140 Partitions.

57.0 grs of RL-22 and a 150 gr Partition in WW brass and lit with a CCI-250 primer run 2925 fps out of my old 24" barreled pre-64 270 WCF.
Sure lays a WHOOP on WT deer.

nosler #6 manual lists 58 grains h4831 ,its the most accurate load with that powder. It worked very well for me wih Hornady 140 btsp. Sub moa, 2900ish fps. Ramshot Hunter also very accurate at slightly less velocity

Same almost as Aceman. 56.0 gr H4831sc and a 140gr Hornady BTSP or Sierra 140gr Gameking. Both are around 2925fps and easily shoot sub moa. Good luck.

IMR7828SSC gives as much speed as RL22, with 140gr Accubonds. maybe a little more. Not sure about accuracy. Has any one tried Magpro? Be carefull with 150gr bullets pressure goes up Quick. Ask me how I Know. I was getting 3080fps with 59gr of RL22 and the 140gr Accubonds, per Barnes manuel, and great accuracy.

Not recommending this load, as it's over current book maxes, but I used to load 59gr H4831 behind 140gr Hornady BTSPs. Was very accurate and averaged 3076fps from a 23" Hart barrel. Was extremely effective on all the deer and the one Elk I shot with it.

Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.

Another vote for I4350. Hornady book max with 140 btsp is extremely accurate in my 22" Abolt.
