Careful there, H&R imported some Sako's for a while. Their Ultramatic weren't all bad either, I think I have one in 243 stuck away somewhere and I know dad had a 308 for a while. Good Lord!! How could we forget Daisy's bolt action foray into the 22LR market? The 2201, '02, '03. ACK!!

H&R imported them, did not manufacture them. Huge difference.

20 years ago, I bought a well done (custom) Mauser 98 (30-06, nice stock, well polished and blued). Beautiful rifle, but it couldn't shoot (4" groups at 100 yards). I sold it quickly.
This rifle reminds me of a friend who (following his divorce), told me that his former wife (a REAL beauty queen!) was lousy at everything else (cooking, cleaning, and communal bliss).

AMT longslide 45 ACP, it was the late eighties, I had no patience, it was a jamming POS, tried new mags, and all available factory ammo. Put it in the shop vise and cut it to smoldering red chunks with the OX/ACET torch. I guarantee that pistol never caused another human grief. Gunner I still have an AMT hardballer that would not function with hard ball, I spent enough on it to get to function I could have bought a les Baer. The only reason I still have it is my conscience won't let me spoil some one else's day.

Stoeger Luger 22. It was barely a single shot.

Last year I bought one of the stainless/synthetic New Haven Model 70's in .223 WSSM at a local store, mostly because the price was really low. I even looked down the barrel with my bore-scope before buying; the throat had a little erosion but not much. Nothing I did with that rifle could get it to shoot better than 3" groups--not rebedding, tuning, or handloads.
Finally I sent it to Charlie Sisk to see if he could figure it out. He said the barrel threads were so undersized the barrel was wiggling with each shot. He said he could probably stabilize it with some set-screws, but also said he had a stainless Lilja #3 barrel with a 1-9 twist that would fit right into the barrel channel. I took him up on the Lilja.
Tried the same handloads I'd tried in the factory barrel, and five went into .4". The rifle didn't suck anymore.

If you got it cheap enough, you probably came out OK, for the price of a donor action and a handle. Knowing you, you probably swapped out the handle, too. DF

Actually, I kept the handle--though did bed the recoil lug. It's working fine so far!

Yeah, those damned H&R ultra slug hunters dont shoot worth a damn.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

Llama 1911 45ACP. About every third round jammed and when it did go bang it shot 10" to the right of aim, probably due to the 15lb trigger pull. Being young and poor made for some occassionaly hard lessons.
