I need to buy a scope for a walk-around groundhog gun that I purchased recently. I like fixed power scopes, and am thinking that either a discontinued Leupold M8 12X AO with MC4 or a Weaver KT15 (15X) would best suit the intended use and my budget. On paper the Weaver has much to recommend it: lower cost (@ $100), higher magnification, and click adjustments. I suspect that the Leupold would have better optical quality, but am unable to compare the two scopes side by side. Which of these two scopes would you choose for ground hog hunting out to 300 yards or so, and why? Thanks for your opinions.

I've been shooting a KT15 for about 4yrs. on a Douglas barreled L46 Sako single shot in 17 Rem. It's used mostly as a ground squirrel gun and like it very much. The only kick some might have is the duplex crosshairs may be too thick for some, I like them just fine. Have seen KTs go for $160 to $190 used in good condition. Pete

Pete : It sounds like you have a great little walk around gun. I have been looking for a single shot L46 Sako for a long time, so far no luck. My new scope will be going on an factory barreled L461 Sako chambered in .222 Rem, and it will be a good rig I am sure. But if I was building the perfect custom carrying varmint gun, it would start with a single shot Sako L46 Action. Thanks for the reply. rollinghills
