Is it me or could you get more information from an early 80's New Order album cover?

http://www.cooperfirearms.com/

Yes, I still want one, but it's hard to window shop.

It does need some serious work. Everything is there but finding it is a convoluted journey.

What I mean specifically is that there isn't much information on the different styles. Click on a model and you'll see what I mean.

Yep. I wasn't able to find everything, but I got a little more info with a convoluted journey. It seemed like a better site about 3 years ago.

You are not alone. I think it's the worst firearms site out there, and, by a long shot. Someone at Cooper likely has a cousin or friend that could build it on the cheap - and did. smile

Yea, Cooper.

The owner donated to the Obama campaign in the last election.

The site may suck, but the rifles don't......

Their old website was much better.

I called Cooper after having a hard time with the website. They are going to send me a print copy of the catalog. I don't have it yet.

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

So, you really believe that?

Not long after the feces hit the fan, one cleverly teased it out of a source at Cooper that nothing had really changed.

Well since your information appears to be second-hand rumors here is the real story. I happened to know Dan Cooper fairly well, I also know Hugo V., the current owner, quite well and I also know most of the folks who are employed by Cooper - not just casually but on a first name basis so I think I have more insight into what has transpired than most of the rumors posted on the internet.

Dan Cooper has no connection with Cooper, he has not had a connection since it was purchased.

I do not agree with his giving money to the Obama campaign in 2008 but I will defend his right to have done so, after all this is the USA, we have more than one political party and each of us has the right to donate to whomever we choose. It was a bad decision for someone in the gun business to do but what was worse is that he tried to lie his way out of it and deny doing it political donations are public record and it is not difficult to ascertain who donated to who. Between that issue and his being ready to move on from the company anyway was the impetus of the selling of Cooper, certainly Dan C. was astute enough to realize that he had "shot himself in the foot" (pun intended). The best part of the news is that Cooper Firearms of Montana is now in good hands, building a quality product and offering more choices than ever.

Since you're going to make such an outlandish claim, we're all eagerly awaiting a link to your no-doubt reputable source/article.

I'm not sure because I can't tell what's available. I suppose an Excalibur. I know some people with Coopers and they swear by them. I've also seen one of theirs and it looked really nice. I window shopped for them (via their old website) a few years ago. Now I should be able to afford one, so I started looking again (on the latest website) and got frustrated. Anyway, I'll still probably buy one for my next toy... unless BO ironically, gets re-elected and then I'll have to get a sport utility rifle first. Ha. I know that the guy who supported BO isn't with the company anymore, too.

Don't derail my thread, guys. That being said, no "reforms" happened during his administration, but it's not for lack of want and it's not like the guy isn't a control freak. Let's look at his past actions and words. First, he supported at least one anti-gun bill in the IL Senate. On his website and in the last round of debates he stated that he was in favor of a permanent renewal of the sport utility rifle ban. Finally, there's definitely some smoke around the Fast and Furious scandal. One would have to have their head in the sand to not realize what their agenda was with F&F. Feel free to email or PM me if you need to get up to speed.

Back to my post, I think I'd like a 52 in the Excalibur style with a SS barrel in 25-06 or 6.5-284. That's if such a thing is available. I don't know and also don't know what the bells and whistles are. I suppose that I could call my local dealer, but the internet seems like it should be more convenient. Thanks.

Had just the rifle you describe in 280AI. It was a beautiful rifle and a shooter. Sold it during one of my rifle trading episodes and regret it. One in either of those calibers would be a great long range rifle.

Still have my Cooper 17 Ackley Hornet in the Jackson Varminter model. Still my favorite rifle out of the couple dozen we have, they make a nice firearm.

Hopefully this will take you to a picture/description of what you have in mind - http://www.cooperfirearms.com/build-your-own

Open the home page click and click on "build your own" and use the drop-down boxes to bring up the rifle/description. This will give you a small picture of the rifle and its specifications.

I have found that going to the "home screen" and clicking on "our rifles" at the bottom of the page will bring up pictures of the different models offered. When you get there place the cursor on the model and click on it and it will open another window and show the different calibers and stock styles available in that particular model number.

There is nothing intuitive about the website - it all a matter of trial and error.

Hopefully you can make some sense of this, I do know how to describe the process better. It just shouldn't be this difficult to access a website for information.

Thanks Drover, I went there and clicked the 6.5 and 25-06. It told me that I was SOL when I clicked 25-06 and 6.5-284. However, I noticed that they put style name first on the "build your own," so they've since update their site. It wasn't like that yesterday. Hopefully, that means that they're working on it. I realize that they're one of the better rifle mfgs. out there. So, even though I'm bitching, I'm also trying to help.

I'll own a Cooper. If BO doesn't get a second term, then it will be sooner rather than later. smile
