Well the 270 is big enough to harvest any game I might be persueing, but, since I'm a handloader the 280 is what I prefer since it give a much larger selection of bullet weight choices.

There are conditions where one is good and the other less than adequate....
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

Add a 10 mph wind and the wheat and chaff separate real quickly.

As well angle, back when I used to shoot chucks at long range a lot we dealt with a lot of angles and a lot of wind. I did fine as long as I was intimate with my rifle. Certain rounds gave me some advantage for sure.

.29s soundly trump either the .27s or .28s without all the recoil of the .30s..... LOL, so true.

When I started out handloading and hunting we could get all of the 30-06 GI ammo free from our club and the DCM as well.
It made no sense to get some other cartridge.
One guy in our group had a 270 that his dad bought for him but the rest of us shot military rounds.
That was a long time ago and now in the local store I see 270 Win. ammo along with 308, 7mm RM, 30-30, 243 and of course the 06.
They don't have the odd stuff like the 7-57 that some like on line.
The reason I have a 270 Win. is that it has nice wood.
The only reason I have a 7-57 is that I wanted a 21H.
The reason I have a 7mm mag is that it always had high BC bullets.
I never wanted a 270. Good round they say but I never wanted one.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

The 270 with a 110g tipped tripple shock loaded with the close to max load of R#19, win 760,or H4350 will really impress you at 300 yards in how it bucks the wind...how if flattens deer is really impressive. Group size at 300 yards is really something to see, and the lack of bullet drop at 300 yds, when sighted in at 200 yards leads you think you are shooting a 220 Swift.

Keep your gun-hand ready and your eyes peeled.
