Very nice, do tell.

Tanner, no doubt. Get older like me and you just enjoy shooting the milder rounds more, and you can shoot more rounds in a day w/o ill effect. In the field, experience teaches horsepower is nice, but far overestimated, while shot placement simply rules, I know you know this......but after I dropped a deer at 400 yds w/a 6BR, I realized alot of guys are just punishing their ears and shoulders far more than needed to hunt America's most popular game. I know out west, things are different, and you have bears to think about, so needs can change.

You prob heard, but Wayne Van Zwoll shot an elk at just over 600 yds w/a Creedmoor using a 129SST IIRC. Worked about as well as JOC's fav...270/130. Granted he precisely threaded the SST where it should go, and all went fine. I'd prob never shoot that far, but it's interesting to know...

Girls, yellow's where its at :D, I like that Varmint muchly Jordo. I've been keeping an eye in the EE for one but they dont pop up often.

You'll find one if you're patient smile

The Varmint is going to see some Atlas/AI mags shortly, and then it'll be done until the barrel needs to turn into a 6.5 bore, chambered in .260 AI grin Unless of course I decide that the bolt and barrel need fluting before then. *grin*

No better way to fly than .260 AI. I wish there were more 260s floating around. Sadly the only way to get a "good one" is to go custom...which isnt a bad idea.

I caved in and ordered an Atlas last night, probably should order 2 or 3 more as that dood is GIVING them away...

Elmerdeer - I'm building a very similar rig. Got all the parts and pieces, just waiting for the smith to call and say he's ready.

I love the way it handles while standing and it pretty good prone
for a lightweight rig, its awsome as my all round hunting gun during the day i go from stand hunting to stalking to driving around looking for a buck in Saskatchewan.
You will enjoy yours.

Mine is a "budget" rifle. I consider it a "medium range" rig... beyond 400 yards but closer than 600 or so. I've shot it out to 800 yards with perfect satisfaction on targets, and hitting 8" steel at 500 yards almost seems too easy!

-- T3 Super Light
-- 300 Win mag
-- FX-3 fixed 6x, LRD, M1 elevation
-- 200gr NAB @ 2900 fps

So far I've gotten one elk (cow) and one buck with this rifle, but not at longrange. Shooting steel at ~500 yards using the LRD or M1 is almost boring. As much as I practice at ~longrange, I got my 2012 cow & buck at 100 yards, maybe less. Go figure.

I'm thinking about adding a bigger gun to my arsenal that could be light enough to carry for extended distances but still could be used to teach me to use turrets for wind and elevation. It would need to be at least 270 caliber to be legal for elk in my state. I have a stupid distain for 270 calibers so that just leaves 284s and 30's because I can't handle a 10 pound 338 for very long.

I'm impressed that other people like the useful mid weight rifles like these.
