Tomorrow, Friday @ 10:00pm (Pacific time) is the 90 minute show "Grizzly Man" on Discovery Channel.

It's about the self-appointed "Grizzly Expert" Timothy Treadwell showing his own films about his life amongst grizzly bears.

In one scene he is shown actually attempting to touch a wild grizzly bear all the while proclaiming "I love you Mr. Brown. I love you! I love you!"

In the end "Mr. Brown" (or his buddies) ended up chowing down on Treadwell and his wife - while his video camera recorded hours worth of his and his wife's death screams and then the sounds of him being turned into bear scat.

Should be a good show. I'll tape it.

Think they will put a disclaimer on to not try this yourself before airing? Might be some more idiots in the viewing audience.

That Charlie Russel character has got to have his date with destiny pretty soon as well. Seen a Nat G show on him and his wife a while ago(Among the Russian brown bears) , and its just a matter of time for them as well.

Back in wildlife biology classes, they told us that when predators lose their fear of us, we become food. That's why when the Californians stopped hunting mountain lions, they started eating people out for a walk in the woods. Jane Goodall could sit with a troop of mountain gorillas and study them because as far as they are concerned, we aren't food but merely curiously hairless apes ourselves. Bears have made a living eating us for centuries back to Thag in the cave. For someone to intentionally expose themselves to bears in hopes of being accepted by them is inviting himself to dinner. Hope it was quick and painless, that's all.

From what I have heard of his "video" (which is really only an audio at this point) it was neither quick nor painless.

Many years ago (when black bears were allowed to peaceably assemble in Yellowstone Park) I saw a guy try to put his small child on the back of a bear for a picture. The bear (a female with cubs, unbelievably) was incredibly patient, but every time he started to put the kid on her back, she just kept edging away. Finally he gave up in disgust at lack of cooperation. Another example of bears smarter than people. I didn't say anything, I was just a little kid, too. I've got more sympathy for the bear than Treadwell in this case. I hope they don't try to make him into some kind of a hero instead of the incredibly stupid person he seems to be.

crossfireoops -

Actually - Treadwell did use bearspray once - and it worked.

But afterwards, he felt such "anguish" over the fact he'd caused pain to the bear - he vowed he'd never use it again - or even carry it again. He felt that even carrying it sent out bad "signals" to the bears that you were not a "loving" fellow creature.

Good Lord, what a fruitcake!

I don't think he'd qualify for a Darwin Award. Those are for removing yourself from the genepool via stupidity, right? He doesn't strike me as having had a lot of breeding potential to start with.

LOL....Dian Fossey studied mountain gorillas...and Jane Goodall studies [bleep].

I can't believe this story. Ah, life without a tv. Sounds like an idiot. This must be the same guy they were talking about in the AK forum a few months back?

So many great human beings in the world....and the media has to make a movie about an idiot <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />!!

I think Jane Goodall was with the [bleep], Dian Fossey was with the gorillas. [bleep] do eat meat once in a while, when they can get it. I have the same habit!!
