Had three friends from Boise stop in for three days of Prairie dog shooting. The babies aren't out yet but we still had some great shooting. We were shooting three 22-250s, a Swift, and a 300 Ultra Mag. As you all can imagine the Ultra provided the best 'entertainment'.

We didn't have one of those fancy benches but did drag an old refrigerator out of the rancher's dump and did LOTS of shooting from there - it was only a 10 foot drag.

This makes me jealous. Just got out today for a forest gopher road hunt west of Kalispell. I need new glasses. Things were pretty sparse, but making things worse, out of all THREE gophers I shot, and all FOUR chances -- I didn't spot a single one by myself. Wow, I knew my glasses were not good, but BLIND? Yep. New ones should be here next week and I sure hope they're good.
Yay for the rest of you, though.

Popped a yearling chuck Saturday with my Great Grandpa's Remington Targetmaster 510 in 22lr. It wasn't a short range snap shot I took and planted him on the spot. Shot his brother too, but he made it down the hole. It was neat to be able to take him with that old rifle.

Thanks Charlie. It was one of my more memorable kills, and I got to include mom on Mothers day weekend wink. I need to see if I can talk her out of that old rifle and trade her something better for pest control smirk.

Happy Mother's Day Gopher.

All sitting around after church having brunch, in our Sunday Go-To-Meeting duds, and the SIL looks out the window and says, "Is that your cat in the garden?"

"No, that's the chubby bastard I've been looking for."

I sprung up from the table, jumped over the wife, and daughter.

Grabbed the Savage and hauled out the door.

By this time, the chubby bastard was getting it across the pasture - straight away from the house. Pausing after every 30-40 yards to see if he was being followed, he'd move again just as I was getting the crosshairs on him.

Finally, he paused a little too long, and I stuck 33 grains in the control room. He went down - no twitching, no death roll, just dropped over dead.

Cheers erupted from the house. (we're easily amused here on the farm)

Paced the distance at a hair over 150 yards, I could still hear the thud when the shot hit money.

Love the plex reticle.

Nope, about a month or so yet.. Still gotta tie up a couple loose ends. I'm hoping we'll be able to stay just long enough for the NMLRA Muzzleloading Championship shoot. It's just under a month away. I'd say goph and prairie dawg shooting will at it's peak when we get back out! grin

Hopefully I'll find some time tomorrow to run up to the ranch and kill a bunch with it. Probably take a shotgun too and take some "family portraits" since all the babies are out

Getting yours out and killing stuff, has reminded me that I've been slacking. I renamed the whore-gnat just for today. He was called Abner Doubleday this morning. Had a few mounds of pups up, and decided to only take shots that would result in doubles(or better). He hit a triple-double...
