Thanks
You have good taste in 22's.
This one's still my favorite. Matter of fact, it's the only 22lr long gun I own.

BTW, it's a 39 (pre 39A). MFG in 1946 and still runs like a Swiss watch. smile

Beautiful rifle..I have an older one made maybe in the early 70's, but have a little Leupold 2-7 on it..When I was a kid, it was my favorite tree squirrel rifle..Still have a photo of the first limit of tree squirrels I killed with it ..

It's not so pretty up close. Not that I've abused it but lets just say it has some 'patina".
Can't imagine a better Squirrel getter. You should scan that pic and post it.

Fieldgrade,

If the gophers bounce back around here I'll trade you a gopher shoot for a rock chuck hunt.

Deal,,,, we found a Rock Chuck bonanza over in central ID a couple weeks ago.
Got to be about half nutz to get there but that shouldn't be a problem for you.
I know it ain't for us. crazy

A primitive camp with lots of Chucks, quite a few Ground Squirrels, and some Fly fishing.
Yea buddy!
We'll probably make it an annual camp.

I was laughing when I read about your half-mile backtrack. Been there done that my friend. High pucker factor for sure...

Would love to drive down and blast some rock chucks. I'll buy the beer.

No pucker factor here buddy.
Like I said, "Allen was driving" so being twice his age I wittingly convinced him that the best thing would be if I walked down and "spotted" for him. smile

Oh,,, and don't worry about the beer (Allen drinks most of it anyway) but I'll sip some Crown with ya should a bottle find it's way into your camp box.

Here is my attempt at uploading a few pictures from my Montana varmint safari of a week and a half ago. The first one is a gopher that met a Nosler 40 gr Tipped Varmageddon .223 bullet from my Remington SPS Varmint . The next 2 are a badger that met a 40 gr V-Max out of the same .223 Remington. The last pic is an antelope fawn that got caught between me and the highway. A great trip, although the gopher numbers seemed down a bit.[Linked Image]

The everlasting rains and high grass are killing my varminting here. Tried Saturday with only one showing up on a pile of debris. Made a 110yd shot off the shooting sticks with the 243. Launched her pretty good. Scraped the parts around behind her for a picture, other side weren't pretty sick.

It's a Bell & Carlson A2 Medalist for a Remington 700BDL. I keep saying I'm gonna throw a badassed Duracoat camo job on it, but basic black is too nice when I'm beating it around and taping dope charts to it. Most of the victims never see it anyways wink.

On this morning's hunt, I took my old custom 700 in .222 Rem. with a 6.5-20 Leupold on it. Most of the shots were less than 200 yards, but the scope made gophers look like little p. dogs.
I forgot how much fun it is to bust gophers with a centerfire rifle. Quite a few were airborne, but quite a number just took the 50 grain Serria Blitz without any flying though the air. Used IMR 4198 in these loads. They are the last of my Blitz bullets. Tomorrow, I think we will go to another area for p. dogs. Summer is rolling along pretty fast. It will be fall before we know it.

The pics I posted were taken near Inverness, Montana (south of Highway 2 between Havre and Chester). I have never found anywhere to shoot around Hat Rock on the Washington side. I would love to find a decent spot to go after rock chucks locally. Let me know if you ever need a spotter! (or back up for those aggressive rock chucks wink )

No. It came that way. It's a Magnum Research. I only added the decal.
