Don't have any experience with the 180 gr. Woodleigh but I have lots with the .277
180 Barnes Original round nose SP.

Wish they were still making them. My supply is getting low. Love those torpedoes for thick timber hunting.

I've used 150g Partitions for a long time in my 270. 130g Partitions and CoreLokts work as well. I'm planning to try some of the new long range .277 caliber 150g Accubonds for both long range shooting and as potentially my new elk bullet.

Chuck

HOPEFULLY--- I'll get to use MINE this year in Ark.

I've read the WHOLE thread...obviously the 270 W is good elk medicine. It'd be a whole lot EASIER toting and hunting my SS Lite 270 than heavier guns.

I also have a M 70 Winlite 300 WM that I like and kill WT with just for practice. It'll probably be my backup.

THANKS for this thread.

180 grain 270 bullets? What do you use for fletching?

Just curious (I have an active imagination) as to whether or not they stick out the end of the barrel if you don't seat them down against the flashhole?

Here's a pic of the 180 gr Woodleigh bullet. It's definitely long and would take up a lot of powder space. I just don't see the need for anything heavier than the proven 150.

Good grief! ...and I thought TTSX or Accubonds were long. That pic almost looks like it was Photo-shopped! shocked

I haven't used any as of yet. Just idle thoughts. I did recently load some 140 gr. Swift A Frames with good results on deer sized animals.

Well no one seems to have a problem with 175-180 gr 7mm bullets; or 160 gr 6.5's.....what's wrong with a 180 gr .277? smile

Woodleigh claims 1/10 twist is fine if anyone has asked. Didn't catch the barrel length though.

If you're trying to turn a .270 into a .30-06, why don't you just use a .30-06?

I was just making fun; but seriously, I don't see any need for them. Not that playing with them wouldn't be fun, but I don't see a need for them that isn't already taken care of.
Maybe for poking brown bears in the rearend...?

It's fine, I know it is not for nothing. ... strictly for my personal references. Always interested in new material like most rifleman and hunters. Something we can all relate too.
