That would be a fantastic conversion, and I highly recommend JES reboring he is the man for all things 35 caliber.

Ive always thought the BLR in 35 whelen would be a great combo.
I wonder if you could buy a 358 win barrel for a BLR and install it on that BLR 30/06 action, after re-chambering it to 35 whelen, since the BLR comes in 358 win ?
but I would point out it might be less expensive to just buy a BLR
in 325 WSM as the ballistics and bullet weights available would be similar

Another vote for JES. Had a Remington 760 .30-06 converted to .35 Whelen by them and it shot great. (The rifling also looked very good in my bore-scope, too!)

You could also find a BLR is 7mm Mag and have it rebarrelled to .358 Norma if you like pain and suffering. That stock just didn't work for me with that kind of recoil. I was really happy when someone else thought it would be fantastic as a coastal elk rifle as I one thought.

Wow, that's a light weight Norma!!! Good to carry I bet but not so great from the bench.

I'm a fan of the short action BLR's. I'm thinking of maybe 338 Federal someday. Thanks or the tip on JES I will have to put that in my contact list for later.

While the 35 Whelen is an excellent cartridge, if you are going to the effort and expanse of a rebore, go to 9.3x62 as it has several advantages:

-better bullet selection
-better factory brass
-better terminal performance

A real thumper !

Maybe, those sight holes may be too deep for 35 or 36 bores. My measurements say a 338 re-bore would be fine. BUT I AM QUITE CONSERVATIVE. Just load some 220 Noslers with RE22 and you have a pretty good Whelen substitute in the good old 30'06. Unless of course you want to go 300Gr lead bullets that takes the quick twist Whelens to new levels of greatness!

MD's endorsement for your whelen-idea makes 3!

I'm not a levergun fan but would choose a BLR if I had to be.
(most likely in a .358)

The Whelen-BLR would make for a helluva fast woodsgun, even on several dangerous North American big stuff! (with 250 Partitions, etc.)

I am thinking that the Rem. pump would be even faster than a lever. Are they not referred to as certain group's machine gun.
Just saying. Cheers NC

Yes "Amish" or "pa" machine gun. In my honest opinion a short action, .358 etc.. Is a real treat in a 99 or blr, now a long action 30-06 35 Whelen etc.. Is more for a pump. But to each their own, I have several blr's 99's and 760/7600's (9) and love them all.

As stated before it can be done but a blr short action in 325wsm loaded with 250 gr Woodleigh's (b/c 403 S/d 343) can duplicate 338 win mag 2700fps and still be within pressure limitations for both cartridge and rifle----
very accurate load and bullet , think about it, the short action has a slightly faster lock up than the long action. The cartridge, bullet and rifle combo may be almost perfect for elk , close or far. and you'll save a bunch of $.

Browning makes the BLR in 358 Win, so they seem to think there's enough room.
