I agree with JB.

Needs a new tube and going back to Wby. may be a cost effective option. Those tubes look really good thru the borescope and seem to be high quality for factory barrels. At least thru the scope, they look a heap slicker than Remington or Savage... blush

Shooting barrels out is a wonderful experience that opens the door to a new challenge. I am warm to it.

The last barrel I shot out went to the gunsmith first. He looked at it and said "looks like the throat is going, but it is also loaded with copper. Let's clean it and see what happens." Cleaned it and still shot like crap, so we rebarreled it. Not sure why someone would be averse to 15 minutes of cleaning first.

Wouldn't hurt to try, but I'm with JB. Two thousand .300 Wby. rounds is probably the life of a barrel. Even if cleaning helps, my take is like his, more than likely needs a new tube.

I hadn't thought about sending it back to Wby, but I would bet the price for a new factory barrel would be a lot less than a custom job by a smith. And Wby. barrels are pretty good.

And with his "mother load" of brass, no way can the OP justify changing to another round... grin

The barrel is clean but it don't look right to me. Good idea Mule Deer maybe Weatherby would put on a new barrel. I do not see a reason to change calibers now. I still like my 300 WBY it has always killed elk.

For sure the .300 Wby., and going back to Wby you'll have to stay with the same round. And with a major investment in .300 Wby brass, that's the only option that makes sense.

I agree with the guys above. It's time for a new barrel. PacNor did a great job on a buddy's MK V in 340 for me a couple years ago.

I burned out the barrel on my 264. First clue was accuracy went to pot. After a good cleaning, the first three would group, but four, five, and six opened the group up to two MOA. After six shots it was a 3.5 MOA rifle.

The second clue was greatly increased fouling. At the end, the Sweet's 7.62 would take as much copper out after five shots as used to accumulate after fifty.

That rifle also shoots nicely again after a trip to PacNor.
