Ben,

The invasion of coyotes into Middle Tennessee really took off in the mid- to late-'80s. Groundhogs declined sharply, as have fox and now deer are constantly stressed.

The 'hogs and fox survive on the edge of suburbs, school campuses and shopping centers.

I've not killed a groundhog in more than a quarter-century as a result.

They are also in the country somewhat, as this one was, living under the barn and tearing stuff up. That's why Scotty gave the green light on this grizzled ol' lady.

The really cool part was gettin' to watch my baby brother whack something. Spend as much time as you can with yours outside.

Soon enough, women, children, work and the toll of time will cut back on y'all's fraternal predatory pursuits. Hunting buddies come and go, but ain't nothin' like bloodsports with your own brother.

Dan

P.S. Just saw this was post 2,000 for me; what a Chatty Cathy! At least it was about sumpin that matters and not fussing with a troll.

Got a coyote today with the new .22-250.. One shot at about 150-170 yards. Howled it in right around 7:30 this morning. It was a fun hunt..

Ben, so whats your first impression of the .22-250 on coyotes? I always thought it killed them more deader more quicker than my .223s.

It folded up like a cheap tent, as Randy Anderson would say. smile I didn't make the best shot placement though and blew the side out of it's neck.. I need to aim a leetle lower next time.. grin It'll be pretty easily stitched up though. You been seeing much wolf sign?

'folded up like a cheap tent'. laugh EXACTLY the right description in my experience!
Bud, I hate to admit but I haven't been out yet, so haven't seen any sign, wolf or otherwise. Got a hunt planned on Monday in country where Ive found wolf sign, will keep you posted...

Dude, you have GOT to tell me if you are ever headed this way. I have a pile-o-stuff for you to haul home.

We're planning on going Lobo hunting probably sometime right after Thanksgiving.. I will definitely give you a heads-up if we get over towards Helena. We'd all really enjoy meeting you.

Ben/Ingwe,

That is my experience moving from a 223 to a 22-250. Where a coyote might twirl or run a bit with a hit from a 223, they die much quicker with a hit from the 22-250.

Ben, What is your 22-250 chambered in? From that distant photo, it looks interesting. Mine is in a Kimber varmint I had ceratkoted and stock in a Wildcat stock.

AB, it's a Sako AII with a 27" stainless Pac-Nor barrel. It's making a fine "walking varminter". smile Scope is a Leupold VX-1 3-9....

I recall seeing your Kimber on another thread... It looked like it would be quite the coyote slayer!

120 yds with the salvage .223 shooting the bonded nosler 64's. I was a little surprised at the damage, there was somewhat of a rabbit explosion when the shot broke
