pointer, I know the boys handle rye and oats, I'll have to check on the brassicas. You putting this in at your place down south?

How much of the above are you needing?

This coming weekend, mama is gonna be out of town. Think I'm going to take all the old squirrels I have in the freezer and pressure cook them. Gonna re freeze the meat for chowder, plus I want to try a squirrel pot pie.

Pot pie doesn't sound too bad! I still have a big bowl of the chowder frozen. May hafta thaw that out for Sunday's football gathering. Looks like I may get out Friday myself!

Went out on Friday. Watched a large fox or small yote through the scope for a while, shoulda shot but couldn't figure out what it was. Tawny fur. It was a windy, and I heard it scrabbling around pretty close before I got eyes on it. I thought it was a housecat at first.

At 5pm, there was a squirrel 'splosion. I emptied the mag and went 3 for 6. By 5:15, it was all over. Saw one on the hike back to the truck at just past too dark to see....

They sure aren't moving much.

My son's coming up this afternoon to get his new truck serviced. Sent me an email to see if I wanted to do a quickie hunt. If the wind is blowing, and it's only 15 degrees by noon, think I'm gonna pass.....grin

Yep, it'd be for the place down south. I'll have to do some figuring and talking with my BIL, but I'm figuring maybe 100# of oats and winter rye/wheat. Maybe 1/4 of that on brassicas. Not sure of the seeing rate on those. All in all I doubt we'd do more than about 2ac total.

Batchief- You can come too! laugh Especially if you bring some chowder! wink

Well, I went. From 9 to 11 am. Absolutely nothing moving. I basically stayed in one spot, for the majority of the time, surrounded by 20 big oak trees, with over half having den holes.
There were plenty of tracks in the snow, but nary a limb chicken sighted. My feet got cold and it started to spit snow, so, I quit and came home. Cleaned both of my .22s and put them away. Now starts the long 6 1/2 mo. wait for next August 15. Tick, tick, tick......grin

It was a helluva season, and I had a blast!

I'll certainly see if this thread gets revived, much as the "Dinkathon" does.

I will also probably get in on the action. Now, I have to decide. Do I use my old M72 with iron sights, or the 10/22, or get the 72 drilled and tapped, or get a high-end rig?

Ahhhh....first things first. I have a few months to find AMMO.

Well, congrats on another season put to rest.

We've got another month in SC gamezone 2, thank goodness. Going out tomorrow--am at one spot, pm at another. Swapping out a couple of hunting buddies at lunch. (Everybody else got duty watching kids half the day.)

It's supposed to be warmer and not much wind, so....

Went out for our last day of squirrel season. Saw 2, and only managed to get one. It was a good day to be in the woods with an "oldie but goodie" Marlin Model 80. She still shoots after all these years.

Well, I'm already getting set for next season. Ordered me a tent today. My son and I are planning a 3 day campout for mid Sept., next year. The week following, I'm heading for a 4-5 day hunt down in the Shawnee National Forest, with some of the boys over at rimfire central. Gotta get a bunch of odds and ends, because I haven't camped out in almost 20 yrs.
